There will be some intriguing revenge games featuring AFC West teams this season.
And it doesn't take long to get the party started. On Sept. 8, in the second game of an ESPN Monday night doubleheader, Oakland hosts Denver. It will give WR Javon Walker a chance to beat the Broncos, the team that cut him after two seasons. Walker's tenure in Denver was hampered by a knee injury and constant complaints by Walker that he wasn't being used correctly.
So watch for Walker to be motivated in this one, and when Oakland visits Denver on Nov. 23. But Walker shouldn't be too upset with the Broncos. Had they not released him, there would have been no way Oakland would have overpaid him with that silly $55 million, six-year deal.
Another interesting revenge game will play out in London when New Orleans hosts San Diego on Oct. 26. It gives Saints quarterback Drew Brees a chance to beat the Chargers, his former team. Brees departed San Diego two years ago as a free agent when the Chargers chose to go with Philip Rivers, whom they acquired three years after drafting Brees.
The Chargers host Atlanta and former LaDainian Tomlinson backup Michael Turner on Nov. 30. But Turner left San Diego only because he wanted to be his own man. The Chargers realized that, so there will be little bitterness in this one.
In December, there will be some bitterness in another revenge game that will take place in Oakland when New England visits the Raiders on Dec. 14. Yes, Randy Moss will be back in Oakland. Moss was lazy and uninterested in his two seasons with the Raiders. Oakland fans were not happy to see Moss turn it back on instantly when he left Oakland, so expect Moss to get a dose of the Black Hole treatment upon his return.
