I can name at least one man who will not be watching Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor's debut on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" tonight. Bill Parcells hasn't said it publicly, but the fact that his club's highest-profile player is skipping offseason workouts to participate in the popular dance competition isn't sitting well.
Taylor, who has remained noticeably silent on his status with the Dolphins, finally came out and professed his loyalty to the organization over the weekend. A week earlier, Miami Herald columnist Armando Salguero cited sources saying that Taylor wanted out of Miami.
The future Hall of Famer isn't willing to engage in a popularity battle with Parcells at this point, but the tension between the two is hard to miss. In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Taylor suggested that he didn't care what the Dolphins thought of his dancing, adding that he doesn't speak out against Parcells' passion for horse racing. Um Jason, I wouldn't go there.
In this video, Taylor asks for Parcells' vote in the competition. You have to love the image of Parcells sitting in his Florida condo trying to figure out which numbers to dial to vote his defensive end off the show.
We'll try to remember to watch the show tonight, but I'm not promising anything.
