As we'll discuss later this afternoon, Oklahoma wide receiver Malcolm Kelly is seeing his draft stock plummet because he still hasn't worked out for scouts. This will finally happen in Norman on April 9, but some scouts think Kelly (thigh injury) has already fallen at least nine or 10 spots.
Meanwhile, Michigan receiver Mario Manningham took a leap forward after a strong performance at Pro Day on Friday. After posting a pedestrian 4.59 40-yard dash time at the combine, Manningham bounced back with a 4.38 in Ann Arbor. Another scout I just talked to clocked him at 4.42 but that's close enough not to matter that much. The fact that Manningham had run a 4.6 during one of his turns in Indianapolis really scared a lot of teams. But he was much more impressive on familiar turf.
Manningham also improved his vertical leap from 32 to 35 inches. Heading into the combine, scouts were more worried about Manningham's lack of concentration catching the ball than his athleticism. His slow times dropped him into the second round on a lot of mock drafts, but he's definitely on the rise again.
Interesting that the only NFL team not represented in Ann Arbor was Denver.
