Brett Favre is speaking from the heart, not a script, and that lends additional credence to his comments about why he is stepping away from the game:
"It's hard to leave. You think you are prepared for it. There have been comments and issues in the press about why I'm leaving, whether or not the Packers did enough, whether or not Ted [Thompson] or Mike [McCarthy] tried to convince me to stay. None of those things have anything to do with me retiring, and that is from the heart. I've given everything I can possibly give to this organization, to the game of football, and I don't think I have anything left to give. I know I can play, but I don't think I want to, and that is really what I think it comes down to."
Favre seems to be gaining a little strength and composure at times through the news conference, only to struggle as the emotions catch up to him. "As they say," Favre said, "all good things must come to an end."
