The Lions coaching staff will take on a new look this season. I've seen the whole running game coordinator-passing game coordinator situation up close, and it's not always a good thing.
For those of you who missed this link yesterday, Michael Rosenberg says that Matt Millen has done what he thought was impossible: "Damaged the reputation of the worst owner in football." Rosenberg also explains why Martz failed in Detroit.
You've heard the expression "his quarterback's going to get him killed?" Well, Vince Young certainly played a role in tight end Bo Scaife's lacerated liver. It's a tough loss for a Titans team that has struggled in the passing game.
In other personnel news, two defensive coaches take the fall for Marvin Lewis in Cincinnati. I didn't know defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan, but linebackers coach Ricky Hunley was a friend of the program. He's a great motivator, but the Bengals never found any continuity at his position.
Interesting tidbit in Niners Insider about how Mike Nolan has a tendency to play the blame game.
Gwen Knapp talks about the spin the 49ers put on Mike Nolan's demotion. She said Wednesday's news conference was part Cub Scout ceremony and part crime scene.
Lane Kiffin may want to hire his dad in Oakland. But Al Davis has to sign off on Rob Ryan's firing first.
Rob's brother, Rex, is also in limbo right now. He's been let go by the Ravens, but he's also one of their top candidates to replace Brian Billick.
Armando Salguero says Bill Parcells is looking to surround himself with familiar faces. That's why the interview process will look like old home week. If Cam Cameron's fired today, look for the Dolphins to interview Tony Sparano on Friday in Dallas. Sparano already has an interview lined up with the Falcons that day, but I'm sure he could spare a couple of minutes with old friends. Update: Cameron has been fired.
Could ESPN be losing another studio analyst to the Dolphins? I'd be surprised if Keyshawn came out of retirement, but I'll give him a ring today and find out what the deal is.
The Falcons will interview the Packers' director of pro personnel for their GM job. And they will also talk to Colts assistant head coach/quarterbacks Jim Caldwell on Thursday. I met Caldwell when he interviewed for the Cowboys job last year. He's the type of high character person the franchise is looking for.
If the shoe fits, it's a good sign for T.O. I'd like to know if he was wearing jogging shoes or penny loafers, though.
