Jets picking up the Pace

In the history of the league, there's never been a better time to be a marginally talented outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme. Former Cardinals defensive end/linebacker Calvin Pace just became one of the highest paid linebackers in NFL history, which leads to the following question: Who is Calvin Pace?

The Jets and Dolphins did their homework on Pace and decided he was worth a huge investment. Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum outbid his mentor and friend Bill Parcells for Pace's services, which is a major breach in protocol.

The $22 million in guaranteed money for a player who's remained under the radar in Arizona is amazing. The Jets have now guaranteed $43 million to free-agent guard Alan Faneca and Pace. They also traded for Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kris Jenkins, who was an elite player at one point. And in the last few minutes, ESPN.com's Michael Smith reported that Damien Woody has signed with the Jets. He'll play right tackle.

I usually don't like to see teams undergo complete makeovers in free agency, but the Browns and Jets have gotten better overnight. Woody's by no means a Pro Bowl offensive lineman at this point, but he'll be fine on that line.
