Free-agency snapshot puts Chargers in clear

Michael Turner's reported agreement with Atlanta leaves San Diego with none of its own unrestricted free agents on the market. Every other team in the league has at least three, and the average is about eight, based on signings and reported agreements.

The Chargers entered the signing period with only three unrestricted free agents: Billy Volek, Michael Turner and Drayton Florence.

Volek re-signed. Turner and Florence (Jaguars) reached agreements elsewhere. San Diego is more aggressive than most teams in re-signing starters before they become free agents. Hence the short list.

The Giants, New England and Oakland have each watched three unrestricted free agents sign with other teams. Gibril Wilson, Kawika Mitchell and Reggie Torbor left the Giants. Asante Samuel, Randall Gay and Donte' Stallworth left the Patriots. Josh McCown, Jerry Porter and Chris Clemons left the Raiders.

Arizona, Green Bay, Washington, Baltimore and Indianapolis remain untouched by unrestricted free agency: no UFAs added, lost or re-signed since the signing period opened Friday (some players, such as the Redskins' Todd Collins, re-signed right before free agency; and of course the Packers traded franchise player Corey Williams). The list is fluid given that Arizona's Calvin Pace figures to have a deal at some point, and other deals are trickling in steadily.
