Bears, Pats, Chiefs low on receivers

Brad Biggs' note in the Chicago Sun-Times about the Bears having only four receivers under contract sent me to my league-wide roster database. I see no team in the league with fewer receivers under contract. I'm showing New England and Kansas City also with four, not counting their own free agents, restricted or otherwise. I've got Tampa Bay with a league-high 11. The numbers change as teams sign players, and I haven't made updates following all the moves today. But teams took 11 receivers to camp on average last season.

Rosters shrink this summer without NFL Europe exemptions, so averages could fall. Teams keep five or six receivers on average for the regular season. Four and seven are the extremes.

Free agency, Bears, Patriots, Chiefs, receivers
