Niners make sense for Bruce

The St. Louis Rams cut Isaac Bruce and brought him back once. But that won't happen again.

At 35, the wide receiver no longer fits into the plans of a team that has to get younger after last season's debacle. But that doesn't mean there won't be other teams interested in the potential Hall of Famer.

If ever there was a perfect landing spot for a veteran to make his farewell tour, it's San Francisco. The 49ers are being very aggressive in free agency and showing a strong desire to win now (mainly because coach Mike Nolan's job depends on it) and Bruce could help in that regard. But, more than anything, San Francisco is a logical spot for Bruce because Mike Martz is the offensive coordinator there.

Bruce had his best days when Martz was coaching the Rams. Bruce won't produce like that again, but Martz is smart enough to figure out ways to use the receiver as a role player.

Isaac Bruce, 49ers, free agency
