Ferguson headed to Miami

As long as Bill Parcells is in the league, nose tackle Jason Ferguson will always have a job. According to frequent Hashmarks contributor Todd Archer, the Cowboys will trade Ferguson to the Dolphins for two sixth-round draft picks, one this year and one next.

Parcells drafted Ferguson with the Jets and then brought him to the Cowboys during free agency in 2005. Ferguson will be reunited with defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers and he'll play in a 3-4 scheme that's much better suited to his skills.

In Wade Phillips' 3-4, Ferguson didn't have the lateral quickness and speed to make plays. Of course, we never really found that out since he tore a biceps muscle in the first game of the season. The injury cleared the way for Jay Ratliff to become an effective starter, and the signing of Tank Johnson made Ferguson expendable.

He'll probably be retired by the time the Dolphins turn their franchise around, but his attitude and work ethic will help shape the locker room. Fergie was one of the best guys in the Cowboys' locker room, and it absolutely killed him that he couldn't contribute this past season.

In the comments section, Packard wants to know why Jenkins brought third and fifth-round picks, but Ferguson only brought the Cowboys two sixth-rounders. Pack, Fergie is five years older than Jenkins and his starting days may have been over in Dallas.
