Coleman visiting Panthers

As expected, the Carolina Panthers will trade defensive tackle Kris Jenkins to the Jets for third- and fifth-round draft picks. The Panthers have been trying to unload Jenkins for two years, but their asking price was too steep.

Jenkins will replace Dewayne Robertson at nose tackle in Eric Mangini's 3-4 defense. The Panthers didn't want to pay Jenkins an upcoming $1 million roster bonus and it saves them about $3 million under the cap.

The move means that Damione Lewis will become a starter for Carolina. The club is expected to host former Falcons defensive lineman Rod Coleman on a free-agent visit today.

The Jets will attempt to trade Robertson, who would be a better fit in a 4-3 scheme. By the way, our Pat Yasinskas thinks Jenkins will go to the Pro Bowl with the Jets.
