Panthers abandon Carr

The David Carr restoration hit a snag this afternoon when the Carolina Panthers sent him packing after one season. Carr threw for three touchdowns and five interceptions while filling in for an injured Jake Delhomme.

His 53.7 completion percentage was pitiful and the 13 sacks he took weren't much better. I don't think Carr will ever recover from the beating he took for five seasons in Houston. Even if you throw out the staggering 68 times he was sacked in 2005, I'm not sure he had the mental makeup to be a franchise quarterback.

He received a fresh start with the Panthers, but he wasn't any better. Carr's refusal to get rid of the ball negated his mobility. At this point, he's always watching the pass rush, which is an awful sign for a quarterback.

"He did everything we asked, but unfortunately it didn't work out like anyone had hoped or expected," GM Marty Hurney said. "David is an excellent person and we wish him the best."

Someone will take a chance on Carr, but it's hard to imagine him becoming a starter again. And in other Panthers news, Moose is back.
