We just talked to a guy with one of the greatest kicking names of all-time, Shane Longest. He's the first player from Saint Xavier (Chicago) University to be invited to the combine, and he's the only NAIA representative this year.
His longest field goal in a game was 55 yards, but he claims to have connected from 75 yards in practice. Of course, it was a wind aided kick, but it's still pretty impressive.
In an awkward moment, Longest talked about how much he enjoyed his medical examination.
"This has all been fun," he said. "Even the medical exams have been fun."
Asked about his favorite portion of the exam, Longest said, "I liked it all."
According to doctors, he's one of the Longest kickers in the nation.
Longest was also the closer for the Saint Xavier baseball team. He's a righty who throws 88 miles per hour. Right now, I'm trying to decide whether to interview the Steelers' director of personnel or a huge kid from Auburn right now.
Let's talk soon.
