My flight to Indianapolis leaves Wednesday night, and I'm planning to take all of you with me. The NFL combine begins this week, giving more than 200 reporters the opportunity to lavish praise on young men who've overcome all odds to bench press 450 pounds and put together complete sentences.
I won't say where I read this, but one well-known journalist was blown away by the fact that Virginia defensive end Chris Long had mastered the phrase "pigeon-hole" after a recent interview.
No detail is too small to report when it comes to the draft, and that's why we hope Hashmarks will become your No. 1 source for small details this week. I already have dinners lined up with representatives from four different teams. Hopefully this will make up for the fact that I still haven't secured a credential for the event. Right now, I'm counting on a Titans scout to stub me in each morning.
The good news is that ESPN is sending at least 14 reporters to Indy, so we should be covered. And since many of you (4) have asked, I'll be releasing my first mock draft sometime after the combine.
