Archie Manning checks in with Hash

Just bumped into Archie Manning on Radio Row. In addition to watching his son Eli play in Super Bowl XLII, Manning is promoting the Oreo Double Stuf Racing League (DSRL), which is supposed to connect family and friends through a competition that requires them to lick an Oreo Double Stuf cookie and drink a glass of milk.

And I can honestly say that I didn't wake up this morning thinking that Archie Manning would hand me a jumbo package of Oreos. After we shared a couple of cookies, we discussed how well his youngest son has been playing.

He thinks Eli's response to criticism from Tiki Barber before the season was an important moment for the Giants.

"He's not a guy who does that type of stuff in the media," Manning said. "So I think it had more weight than usual."

Manning said his son was "crazy about Tiki," and he doesn't think he's holding any sort of grudge.

"Tiki was really good to Eli," Manning said.

Manning said that his other sons, Peyton and Cooper, have always read everything that's written about them. But Eli's saving grace in New York may have been that he almost never reads the newspaper.

"People ask me if it hurts to read negative stuff about your son," Archie said. "And it does, but since Eli doesn't look at the papers on Monday, it's really never hurt him."
