Super Bowl XLII may reach $100 million in legal betting in Las Vegas for the first time, but that only makes the casinos more nervous. Because of the wide point spread (opened at 14), it looks like about 75 percent of gamblers are going with the Giants.
According to this report in The Wall Street Journal, sports books are practically begging Patriots fans to even up the money. It's bringing back memories of Super Bowl XIII, which is referred to as Black Sunday in Las Vegas.
In 1979, the Steelers were initially favored by as few as two points over the Cowboys. But bettors started loading up on the Steelers, causing the spread to rise to five. At the last minute, the tide turned for the Cowboys, and it drove down the spread.
