Hash Exclusive: the Arthur Blank interview

December 10, 2007 10:39 PM

Hash: Arthur, how difficult has this day been for you?

Blank: This has been a long day for me, our team, our organization and our fans. But I think we actually moved forward before today.

Hash: How hard was it for you to see your former star quarterback being sentenced to almost two years in prison?

Blank: I'm very disappointed for Michael. To see pictures of him in prison garb is a very difficult thing. It has to be devastating for him personally.

Hash: Will you reach out to Vick now that he's been sentenced?

Blank: I believe in redemption. I truly hope he comes back as a changed person. We'll see. I really hope he comes back and plays in the NFL. I would like to see that.

Hash: After everything you've been through as a franchise, would you ever consider bringing him back as a Falcon?

Blank: When you turn 65, never is a word you learn not to use. You never know where he's gonna be physically after spending that much time in prison. We still have his rights for now, but I don't know what will happen down the road.

Hash: Have you talked to Vick recently?

Blank: I told Michael that any way I can help, I will do it over the next couple of years. And I mean that.

Hash: At 3-9, what do you think of the direction Bobby Petrino is taking this team?

Blank: Even at 3-9, I feel more confident now than I did when we hired him. He needs some time to decide who he wants to keep and who he wants to let go. I think this team will get a lot more competitive when that happens. (Colston scores to put the Saints up 17-7)

Hash: Does it surprise you at all to see so many fans wearing Vick jerseys tonight?

Blank: No, I expect them to do it for a period of time. He was great for the National Football League and did a lot for us in the six years he was here. I completely understand the fans still wanting to support him. I'm a person who believes in second chances, and I think we'll see Michael in the league again.

At this point, I could tell he was dying to watch the game, so I let him off the hook.

Wait, when did it become 31-7?
