When Boomer Esiason made the statement yesterday that the Steelers had surpassed the Colts as the second-best team in football, I thought he was being a bit premature.
Of course, that was before the Colts dropped a game in San Diego. It's hard to believe that a three-point win over the Browns at Heinz Field would earn the Steelers such high praise, but this is obviously a different Cleveland team.
Ben Roethlisberger showed once again why he should be considered an elite quarterback in the league, and the Steelers defense recovered from a sluggish start to silence the high-powered Browns in the second half. Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo may be more creative when he leaves the pocket, but Roethlisberger is the best in the league at throwing on the run. It's amazing to watch defenders bounce off him as he continues to look downfield.
Meanwhile, Green Bay and Dallas both notched impressive wins to improve to 8-1. In one day, the Steelers, Packers and Cowboys may have moved past the reigning Super Bowl champs.
And yes, I realize the Colts were playing short-handed, but that's not why their future Hall of Fame quarterback threw six interceptions.
I'm leaning toward moving the Steelers into the No. 2 sport in the power rankings, but could still be talked out of it. Troy Aikman thinks the Cowboys are in a class by themselves in the NFC, but I'm not so sure.
The Packers have located a running game, and the defense continues to play well. Let me hear from you.
