Texans Dominating Chiefs

September 9, 2007 3:14 PM

Texans quarterback Matt Schaub is making an impressive debut against the Chiefs. He's 12-of-18 for 183 yards, a touchdown and an interception. The Texans are up, 17-0, and their defense hasn't allowed Chiefs running back Larry Johnson to get anything going.

Last year, defensive coordinator Richard Smith said he gave the Texans too much to think about early in the season. He wanted the defense to create a lot more turnovers, and that's what is happening today. Second-year defensive end Mario Williams returned a fumble 38 yards to put the Texans up 17-0 in the third quarter.

The Texans have put eight players in the box and challenged Damon Huard to beat them downfield. So far, he hasn't been able to. With Schaub's accuracy and ability to get the ball out quickly, Andre Johnson (122 yards, touchdown) could put up huge numbers this season and finally receive the attention he deserves.

I know it's the Chiefs, but Texans fans have a lot to be happy about today. Johnson still only has 43 rushing yards at the end of the third quarter. His longest carry is eight yards.
