I'll admit to being part of the reason Friday Night Lights almost got canceled. As most of you know, fledgling networks such as NBC base a lot of their programming decisions on my viewing habits, and I've never given the show much of a chance.
My life is filled with sports, and I live a block away from one of the best high school football stadiums in the nation (it will always be Wildcat-Ram Stadium, Berkner).
I attended a small high school in North Texas (Kaufman) that is only about 18 years removed from running the single-wing under the legendary and hilarious Jim Burch. For those reasons, I just assumed the producers of FNL would get it wrong -- and come up with something a lot closer to Varsity Blues than Buzz Bissinger's classic book.
