After torching former teammate Jason David for three touchdowns in the first game of the season, Colts quarterback Peyton Manning faces another familiar face today in Titans cornerback Nick Harper.
David and Harper were the starting corners on the Colts' Super Bowl team, but now they're finding out that familiarity isn't what it's cracked up to be. Harper told our man Werder that he attempted to call David after his rough outing, but that all the consoling messages had prompted his ex-teammate to change numbers.
Harper vowed to keep everything in front of him today, and said he was willing to give up 15-yard comeback routes to Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne. So far, it hasn't mattered. The Colts are gashing the Titans' defense with Joe Addai, and victimizing another ex-teammate, linebacker David Thornton.
Manning has realized that most linebackers don't have any chance of covering Dallas Clark in the middle of the field (See Scott Fujita and Scott Shanle).
The Colts are missing two starting linebackers, but it hasn't mattered so far. Oops, we spoke too soon. Vince Young just made Bob Sanders look silly in the open field. Tough sleddin' for my guy Chris Brown so far. I haven't heard from any of you guys who killed me for taking him in the seventh round of our fantasy draft.
One more thing: I made fun of this Titans receiving corps, but I sort of like what I'm seeing so far today. Titans just got hosed on a non-PI call.
