Belichick's Cheatin' Heart Roundup

September 14, 2007 6:21 AM

Judging by your comments, many of you think Patriots head coach Bill Belichick got off easy when NFL commissioner Roger Goodell fined him $500,000 and took away one of the club's two first-round draft choices. (The Pats will lose an '08 first-rounder if they make the playoffs. We know they're in.) You wanted a suspension, but after giving it serious consideration, Goodell decided the maximum fine and removal of a draft would have a longer-lasting impact.

Belichick might be the best coach in the league, but this team has too much talent to fall apart because he's not on the sideline. Even if he were banned from the practice facility, Belichick would still be in contact with his coaches. The New Bedford Three would drop off tapes in secluded areas, where their hooded leader would be lurking.

But you've already seen my take. Let's see what folks around the country are saying:

  • New York Daily News columnist Gary Myers' name has mysteriously vanished from the annual Commissioner's Ball invitation list.
  • You can hear me discuss the Patriots scandal with Colin Cowherd at 10:20 AM ET today.
