Room For Improvement

My colleague John Clayton recently wrote a piece about teams that had the best chance to dramatically improve their records this season. He provided several numbers to back up his theory, and basically presented the logical argument that playing bad teams is one quick way to turn your franchise around.

So here are the teams John thinks have the best opportunity to double their win totals from last season. Keep in mind that the best way to make a dramatic improvement is to be really, really bad in the previous season.

1. Tampa Bay

2. Arizona

3. San Francisco

4. Miami

5. Detroit

I analyzed the way John crunched the numbers, and then threw all 32 teams into the exclusive Hashmarks Database. I assigned certain points for offseason moves and strength at each position, including special teams. Someday I will reveal my formula, but right now it's in the process of being copyrighted.

Here's what we came up with:

1. Miami

2. Pittsburgh

3. Houston

4. Denver

5. Oakland
