Several eyewitness accounts had Jared Gaither's weight hovering somewhere near 360 pounds about a month ago. That's when he found out he wouldn't be eligible for his senior season, and decided to apply for the NFL's supplemental draft.
Gaither quickly enrolled in Test Sports, a performance-enhancement center in Martinsville, N.J., where he worked closely with former New York Giants guard Billy Ard.
At his recent workout, the 6-9 Gaither weighed 324 pounds and recorded a 31-inch vertical leap. He also ran a 4.98 40-yard dash on at least one stopwatch.
Nebraska offensive tackle Chris Patrick worked out at the same facility, but he's been a lot more guarded about his recent workout and the circumstances surrounding his early departure from college.
Most of the players in this draft didn't light it up in the classroom, but Patrick was actually in good academic standing at Nebraska.
