What they're saying in San Diego:
- Chargers head coach Norv Turner wasn't pleased with two turnovers in the red zone, but the offense was still dominating in a 33-31 win. Quarterback Phillip Rivers was 20-of-30 for 282 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Vincent Jackson caught both touchdowns, and if you haven't had your fantasy draft yet, keep him in mind. The defense wasn't quite as efficient, although the Chargers haven't utilized many of their blitz packages during the preseason.
- Backup running back Michael Turner left the game with a high right ankle sprain, which could keep him out for several weeks. The injury will probably clear the way for former Kansas State running back Darren Sproles to make the team. First-round draft choice Craig Davis missed the game because he had his wisdom teeth removed. Another wide receiver, Kassim Osgood, had another solid effort. He took a huge shot from Cardinals Pro Bowl safety Adrian Wilson, but held on for a 24-yard catch.
What they're saying in Arizona:
- Pretty strong outing by quarterback Matt Leinart who was 10-of-16 for 196 yards and a touchdown. When I watched him in person last season, he was constantly looking to the check-down pass. On Saturday, he did a nice job escaping pressure on an 80-yard touchdown pass to Anquan Boldin and a 41-yard completion to Bryant Johnson.
- The Cardinals need linebacker Karlos Dansby to continue to make big plays. Dansby, a former second-round draft pick, looks great at times, but he's always had a lot of nagging injuries. He had eight sacks last season, and he's capable of being a disruptive force. At safety, Adrian Wilson is one of the most underrated players in the game. I've had several wide receivers tell me that they're always trying to locate where he is on the field.
- We'll have more preseason fallout throughout the day. Oh, and we'll have more details on the Governor's Cup Parade in Houston. Stay tuned.
