No love for Leftwich

CBS Sportsline's Pete Prisco provided a spirited defense of Byron Leftwich in his column earlier this week.

He said that there is "talk in the city" that Leftwich isn't liked in Jacksonville because he's black. But then he quickly points out how a lot of fans supported David Garrard, who is also black.

Leftwich will enter the season as the starter under new offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, but head coach Jack Del Rio will probably have a quick hook if things go poorly. I'm not sure about the racial aspect of this whole thing, but I've had several personnel guys around the league explain to me that Leftwich's long windup really hampers his accuracy.

And the fact that he's been surrounded with a rather pedestrian group of receivers hasn't helped either.
