Michael Allain (Fullerton): Got his 210 yards on 16 carries, scoring twice, and left early as Fullerton rolled past Santa Ana Valley, 42-3, in a CIFSS Southwest Division first round victory.

Usua Amanam (Bellarmine, San Jose): Stanford-bound running back single-handedly torched Milpitas in the opening round of the CCS Open Division playoffs in a 34-7 victory at San Jose City College. Amanam rushed for 194 yards and four touchdowns, all in the first half. His performance was rewarded by the San Francisco Chronicle, which made him its Bay Area Metro Boys Athlete of the Week.

Brandon Blake (Linfield Christian, Temecula): Pulled in five Jason Morales passes for 156 yards and a 43-yard TD in 42-14 victory over Mammoth. Morales was 9 of 20 for 243 yards passing in the CIFSS Northeast Division playoffs.

Dionza Bradford (Serrano, Phelan): Was a one-man show for the Diamondbacks as he carried the ball 26 times for 247 yards and four TDs in a 34-13 win over La Quinta in the first round of the CIFSS Eastern Division playoffs.

Andy Bridge & Thomas Bernal (Paso Robles): Bridge rushed for 198 yards on 26 carries and a 10-yard TD to complement Bernal, who was 12 of 23 for 264 yards and a TD in the 26-18 win over Pacifica of Oxnard in the opening round of the CIFSS Northern Division playoffs.

Allan Bridgford (Mission Viejo): The Cal recruit completed 18 of 25 for 304 yards and two TDs in the Diablos' 37-7 win over Loyola of Los Angeles in a CIFSS Pac-Five playoff opener.

Mario Brown (Bishop O'Dowd, Oakland): The North Coast Section's leading rusher had another big day in a 35-14 home victory in the opening round of the NCS Division III playoffs. The speedy junior rushed for 221 yards and scored on a 80-yard touchdown on 15 carries. Brown now has 1,749 yards and 22 touchdowns going into this Saturday's quarterfinal match up at home against Marin Catholic of Kentfield.

Joel Bryant (Flintridge Prep, La Canada): In a losing effort, Bryant rushed for 249 yards and two touchdowns but it wasn't enough as Riverside Christian recorded a 37-21 first round win in the CIFSS Northeast Division playoffs.

Arthur Burns (Centennial, Corona):
Made the most of his 17 carries, gaining 207 yards and scoring on runs of 46 and 26 to lead the Huskies to a 62-7 rout of Yucaipa in a CIFSS Inland Division playoff opener.

Brandon Buteyn (Paraclete, Lancaster): Bolted for 249 yards rushing and hit pay dirt three times on 15 carries in the Spirits' 42-14 CIFSS Mid-Valley first round playoff victory over San Marino.

Jordan Canada (Duarte): Rushed for 217 yards and scored three touchdowns in Duarte's 38-20 victory over L.A. Baptist of North Hills in the first round of the CIFSS Mid-Valley Division playoffs.

Deven Cannon (Johansen, Modesto): After his team gave up a touchdown on the opening kickoff, Cannon was like shot of lightning in a Sac-Joaquin Section Div. I playoff game against McNair of Stockton. He ended with 29 carries for 375 yards and five touchdowns as Johansen won, 47-13, and earned a spot in this week's section quarterfinals against 10-1 Merced.

Marquel Carter (Culver City): Passed for 248 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 83 additional yards with another touchdown to lead the Centaurs to a 25-7 CIFSS Western Division playoff victory over Downey.

Matt Ching (Salesian, Richmond): While former Pride running back Jahvid Best, now starring for Cal, was rushing for 201 yards and three touchdowns in the Big Game against Stanford, his replacement in the Salesian backfield was busy at the very same time, piling up even more yards in a 42-7 blow out of visiting Fort Bragg in the opening round of the NCS Division IV playoffs. Ching, a senior, ran for 268 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries and also had a six-yard TD reception.

Robert Cruz (Magnolia, Anaheim): It won't seem right not having Cruz among the leaders next week as he gained 305 yards in a season-ending loss to Tustin. Cruz gained his 228 on 45 carries, scoring twice on the ground in addition to grabbing a 77-yard TD pass.

Duke DeLancelotti (San Clemente): Did all they could do but it wasn't enough in a 24-16 CIFSS Pac-Five first round loss to Esperanza of Anaheim. DeLancelotti was 19 of 34 for 310 yards and zero interceptions passing.

Anthony Denham (Wilson, Los Angeles): Solid Div. I prospect for the Mules had a big game on both sides of the ball as Wilson survived a wild 52-50 game against Santee of Los Angeles in the first round of the L.A. City Section Invitational Division playoffs. He caught a touchdown pass from QB Jonathan Rojas, returned a kickoff 80 yards for a score and intercepted two passes, returning them for a total of 140 yards.

B.J. Denker (North Torrance): Accounted for five touchdowns but it wasn't enough as Morro Bay came away with a 48-37 first round win in the CIFSS Northern Division playoffs. Denker completed 25 of 45 passes for 319 yards and added 82 yards rushing and three touchdowns. His other two scores came on aerial strikes.

Jonathan Diaz (Chaparral, Temecula): Scored five touchdowns, three in the first quarter, en route to gaining 187 yards on 20 carries to lead the Pumas past Vista del Lago, 48-10. Counting receptions, he amassed 233 yards in the CIFSS Inland Division first round win.

Danny Diekroeger (Menlo School, Atherton): Junior signal-caller, who was injured much of the season, came up with a big game but interceptions and the running game of Sacred Heart Prep (Atherton) ended the Knights' season in a 49-21 defeat in the opening round of the CCS Small School Division playoffs. The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder completed 24 of 41 passes for 348 yards with a TD but also had three passes picked. He hit Jerry Rice Jr. with eight passes for 109 yards in Rice Jr.'s final high school game.

Nico Dumont (Marin Catholic, Kentfield): One of the Bay Area's toughest two-way players did it again in a 49-8 rout at home of Analy (Sebastopol) in the opening round of the NCS Division III playoffs. The 6-foot, 210-pound running back/safety scored the first three times he touched the ball, including on the Wildcats' first play from scrimmage and a 69-yard screen pass from quarterback Nick Kristoff, who completed his first five passes. Dumont only played one snap into the third quarter, but still finished with 161 yards combined and the three scores. He also had 10 tackles and a sack that forced a fumble on Analy's opening drive.

Blake Dunn (Bullard, Fresno): Tied three school records by a kicking a 55-yard field goal, he also added another one from 45 yards out, against Bakersfield in a Central Section Division I playoff game that Bullard won, 35-14. Blake now has nine field goals for the season.  The "Long-Ranger has a chance to kick Bullard to the school's first Central Section championship as the Knights play Clovis West for the second time this season in the section semifinals. Blake had 11 kicking points against Edison recently as he made two field goals and five PATs to tie another school record according to Central Section historian Bob Barnett.

Robert Escamilla (Santiago, Garden Grove):
Although he only scored once on 30 rushes, Escamilla gained 214 yards to help Santiago defeat Costa Mesa, 17-14, in the first round of the CIFSS Southern Division playoffs.

Juan Flores & Trayvon Ralph (A.B. Miller, Fontana): Flores was 13 of 18 for 223 yards passing and three TDs, in addition to rushing for 150 yards and another score. Ralph grabbed 10 passes for 183 yards and two TDs in the 48-21 win over Roosevelt of Corona in the first round of the CIFSS Inland Division playoffs.

Zack Graves (Whitney, Rocklin):
There is no question the 11-0 Wildcats would not be where they are, No. 4 in the CalHiSports.com Division II north bowl rankings, and looking for a Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV title, without this 5-foot-9 senior halfback. In a 42-14 home victory over Foothill (Sacramento) in the opening round of the playoffs, he put up his usual gigantic numbers. The reported rushing and scoring leader in the section ran for 237 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries, his fifth 200-yard rushing performance this season. Graves now has 2,216 yards on the ground with 33 touchdowns. He also has five touchdowns passing and one receiving with two two-point conversions. He'll get to add to those stats this Friday when Whitney hosts Sierra of Manteca in the semifinals.

Kyle Gluck (La Serna, Whittier):
Rushed for 230 yards and scored on runs of nine, 58, 68, and 12 yards to lead his club past San Gabriel by a 42-14 margin in a CIFSS Southeast Division first round playoff game.

Leroy Green (California, San Ramon): Consistency has been the name of the game for Green all season and he's been consistent against top-notch competition. Although he's been in double digits rushing in every game this year, last week was the first time Green went over the 200-yard mark in a 41-0 whitewashing of host Washington of Fremont. The 5-foot-11, 210-pound bruising back finished with 202 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries. Against teams such as Bellevue (Wash.), Monte Vista of Danville and De La Salle of Concord plus others in the tough East Bay Athletic League, Green now has 1,581 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns going into this Saturday's match up on the road in Pittsburg.

Sam Guite (Huntington Beach): Passed for 346 yards by completing 33 of 48 with a TD, but it wasn't enough in a 45-19 setback to El Dorado of Placentia in the CIFSS Southwest Division playoffs.

Jose Guzman (Norwalk): Churned for 219 yards and two scores as Norwalk defeated Garden Grove, 38-6, in a CIFSS Southern Division first round game. His rushing touchdowns came from 17 and two yards out.

Geno Hall (Crenshaw, Los Angeles): Banning of Wilmington could probably match the Cougars in the trenches, but there is no substitute for speed and the Cougars definitely have that with players such as WR Noel Grigsby, RB DeAnthony Thomas and Hall. Hall ignited the Cougars in their 42-6 victory over Banning of Wilmington in the first round of the L.A. City Section Championship Division (4A) playoffs by returning kickoffs of 93 and 89 yards for touchdowns as Crenshaw posted a 42-6 victory over the Pilots. They will face Jordan of Los Angeles in a Wednesday night quarterfinal game.

Logan Hess & Charles Boyett (Napa):
This duo provided the firepower, and every bit of it was needed in a 45-42 home victory over Folsom in the opening round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs. Junior running back Hess finished the game with 209 yards and three touchdowns to give him 1,357 yards and 20 touchdowns so far this season. Boyett, who lines up as a quarterback/running back, had three touchdowns of his own and 147 yards rushing. The pair now takes their game into the second round when Laguna Creek of Elk Grove comes to town this Friday night.

Andre Holmes (Glendora):
Rolled for 258 yards on 23 carries and three TDs, including a 68-yarder, in the 56-21 romp over West Valley of Hemet. Glendora had 494 total yards in the CIFSS Central Division playoffs.

Nick Isham & James De La Serna (Westlake, Westlake Village): The soph Isham was 25 of 38 for 365 yards and a TD while De La Serna grabbed 11 for 199 yards in a 36-35 upset of Oxnard in the first round of the CIFSS Northern Division playoffs.

Chris Jackson, Keenen Williams, Delvonte Hunt & Anthony Boyte (Laguna Creek, Elk Grove): Each of the four had a hand in a Sac-Joaquin Section Division I 48-25 Cardinals victory over Monterey Trail (Elk Grove) in a game played at Elk Grove High. Jackson accounted for six scores, completing seven of 14 passes for 136 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for 112 yards and three runs to pay dirt on 12 carries. Williams rushed for 167 yards and a touchdown. Hunt had two fumble recoveries and Boyte had two interceptions.

Cody Jackson, Kyle Gschwend & Danny Dealba (Serra, San Mateo): The 6-foot, 200-pound Jackson, who looks like one of the top two dual threat signal-callers in the Bay Area with De La Salle's Blake Wayne, scored four second half touchdowns to key the Padres to 45-14 victory in a game they trailed 14-3 at halftime. He finished with 164 yards passing and two touchdowns and 137 yards on the ground with two more scores. Linebacker Gschwend led the Padre defense with three sacks, two forced fumbles, a bat down and a forced interception. Dealba had a sack, a fumble recovery and a 47-yard interception return for touchdown.

Jemeryn Jenkins (Silverado, Victorville):
Totaled 420 all-purpose yards and scored three times in a 41-35 win over Patriot of Riverside in a first round CIFSS Eastern Division playoff game.

A.J. Johnson (Chino Hills): Got his 215 yards on 16 carries and a pair of TDs early in a 52-13 romp over San Gorgonio of San Bernardino in the first round of the CIFSS Central Division playoffs.

Kahlil Keyes (Casa Grande, Petaluma): With some players above him out of the playoffs, this 5-foot-10, 195-pound junior will be moving up the rushing leaders list among North Coast Section's running backs. After a 229 yard two touchdown performance in a 38-12 NCS Division II home victory over Concord, Keyes now has 1,240 yards going into this Friday's second-round match up on the road at Clayton Valley in Concord.

Ponce de Leon (La Mirada): He might have discovered the Fountain of Youth in a previous life, but he couldn't lift La Mirada to a win over Corona del Mar in the CIFSS Southern Division playoffs. He completed 31 of 42 passes for 357 yards, but the Orange County club pulled out the 26-15 victory.

John Lister & Ian Shultis (Thousand Oaks): Lister carried the ball 39 times for a school-record 322 yards and five TDs (20, 1, 27, 1, 21) during a 49-28 victory over Santa Barbara in the CIFSS Northern Division playoffs. Lister accounted for all but four of Thousand Oaks' rushes while Shultis was 14 of 20 for 209 yards and a TD passing.

Bryson Lloyd (Santa Barbara): Etched himself in our state record book by grabbing 24 passes for 220 yards with a TD. The 24 is equal to No. 2 on the all-time state list with Steve Martinez of L.A. Wilson, who turned the trick against L.A. Marshall during the 1977 season. Lloyd's mark is just two off the reported state record set by Fullerton's David Sepulveda during a 1984 game against Buena Park.

Chris Lopez (Notre Dame, Riverside): Even though the Titans' season ended in a 55-27 loss to Hesperia, he completed 24 of 37 passes for 297 yards and a pair of TDs in a losing effort in the CIFSS Eastern Division playoffs.

Daniel Lopez (San Fernando): Carried the ball 26 times for 217 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Tigers to a 27-19 L.A. City first round playoff victory over Dorsey of Los Angeles. With San Fernando up by one-point (21-20), Lopez bolted for a 73-yard TD, has now rushed for 490 yards the past two games and he now has over 1,300 yards on the season. Highly regarded QB Rashaad Reynolds also had another solid game with seven caries for 83 yards with two touchdowns while also completing eight of 16 passes for an additional 125 yards.

Bobby Mendoza (Dinuba):
Passed for a season high of 252 yards, good for three touchdowns of 41, 27, 53 yards, against Porterville in a Central Section playoff game that Dinuba won, 34-27. That denied Porterville its first playoff win since 1914.

Mario Navarrete & Michael Torrejos (Sanger):
In a 47-19 win over Sunnyside of Fresno in the Central Section Div. II playoffs, Torrejos had 104 yards and scored three touchdowns while teammate Mario Navarrete had 100 yards and one score. They also became the first tandem in school history to rush for 1,000 yards each in a single season.

Juvonte Owens (Castlemont, Oakland): This 5-foot-9, 180-pound junior running back/strong safety is one of the big reasons the Knights will be playing for the Oakland Section championship against Fremont of Oakland in Friday's Silver Bowl at Laney College. In last week's game Castlemont was leading 14-6 to begin the fourth quarter when Owens took over, scoring on runs of 46 and 54 yards to seal a 34-6 home victory over Oakland Tech. He finished with 155 yards on 15 carries with the two scores and also had 11 tackles on defense.

Chris Paul (Laguna Beach):
Sophomore grabbed passes for 147 yards and four of them (from 40, 38, 5 and 9 yards out) went for six in a 39-14 win over Santa Ana in the CIFSS Southern Division playoffs. Oh, he also returned a fumble 29 yards for a score, giving him five on the night.

Karsen Reedy (Crescenta Valley, La Crescenta): Completed 18 of 35 passes for 303 yards and two touchdowns in a 22-21 CIFSS Southeast Division playoff victory over California of Whittier.

Omar Sanchez (Arleta): Scored four rushing touchdowns and caught a scoring pass to lead the L.A. City Section Invitational Division's top seed to a 42-7 first round victory over South East of South Gate.

Gavin Santos (Hesperia): Rushed for 221 yards and five TDs, three in the first quarter, and had a sixth called back as Hesperia beat Notre Dame of Riverside 55-27 in the first round of the CIFSS Eastern Division playoffs.

Matt Satchwell (Casa Roble, Orangevale): One of the big reason the Rams are the CalHiSports.com No. 1 ranked Div. II team in Northern California, and in a position to be on the board for a D2 north bowl berth, is because of this 5-foot-9, 180-pound senior running back. Last week in a Sac-Joaquin Division III game record for points scoring, Satchwell could've nearly beaten Bethel single-handedly as Casa Roble rolled to a 64-22 victory. Satchwell rushed for 154 yards and four touchdowns and added a 66-yard kickoff return for a fifth score. Going into a second round game at home against Rodriguez of Fairfield, Satchwell has 1,699 yards rushing and 24 rushing touchdowns and 26 total.

Chance Simon (Norco):
When the Cougars line up to attempt field goals from distance, they are taking a chance on chance, but when you blasted field goals of 47 and 52 yards it doesn't seem to be much of a gamble. His special teams play on a calm night helped Norco to a 19-9 upset victory over Rancho Verde of Moreno Valley in the CIFSS Inland Division playoffs.

Vaughn Smith (Menlo-Atherton, Atherton): This Bear won't be hibernating quite yet, as the senior running back led the rest of the pack to a 36-20 CCS Large School Division home victory over Homestead of Cupertino with 244 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 24 carries.

Trevor Smyth (Valencia): Sophomore linebacker recovered two fumbles, one that set up a short score and another that he returned 69 yards for a TD in the Vikings' 42-14 victory over Ventura in the CIFSS Northern Division playoffs.

Jerry Stone (Lakewood): His 222 yards were impressive but his big carry was a 16-yard TD in overtime that helped deliver a 35-34 victory over previous state Servite of Anaheim in the CIFSS Pac-5 Division playoffs.

Tra Sumler (Rosemead): Helped the Panthers advance in the CIFSS Mid-Valley Division playoffs with 285-yard, five rushing TD performance in a 45-14 victory over Valley Christian of Cerritos.

Eric Tomko (Middletown): The 5-10, 190-pound fullback/linebacker carried 20 times for 186 yards and scored four touchdowns as his team improved to 10-1 with a 34-7 win over Clear Lake in the first round of the North Coast Section Div. IV playoffs. Tomko also was in on numerous tackles on defense.

Sam Tompkins (Palo Alto): After Paly forced a turnover on downs on the opening drive of the game, they handed the ball to senior tailback Tompkins and never looked back. Tompkins was a one-man wrecking crew as the visiting Vikings blitzed Leigh of San Jose, 48-0, in the opening round of the CCS Medium Schools Division playoffs. He finished with 226 yards on 13 carries and three touchdowns, including an 86-yard TD run to open the scoring.

John Uribe (Santa Barbara): Uribe went out with a flurry as he completed 47 of 68 passes for 468 yards and 4 TDs with just one interception in the 49-28 setback to Thousand Oaks in the CIFSS Northern Division playoffs. His reported completion total broke a state record held by L.A. City Section gunslingers Perry Klein and David Koral, both of whom attended Palisades. His pass attempt total tied the reported state record first set by Jason Sanborn from Palo Alto Gunn during a 32-20 victory over Palo Alto. It was the fourth consecutive week Uribe had thrown 50 or more passes.

Cody Vaz (St. Mary's, Stockton): He's heating up in the playoffs and that's bad news for the rest of the Sac-Joaquin Section. In a 56-14 win last week over Los Banos in the first round of the Division I bracket, Vaz completed 21 of 29 passes for 347 yards and two TDs. He also scored once himself on a short run. Vaz completed seven passes to junior Louis Lechich and six to junior Josh Harper. The Rams (9-2) play Lincoln of Stockton (10-1) in this week's Division I quarterfinals.

Russell Vonschoech (Pleasant Grove, Elk Grove):
He might not have been the biggest guy on the field, but in a 35-12 victory over Fairfield in a Sac-Joaquin Division I opener at Monterey Trial of Elk Grove, the Eagle running back/defensive back played like a giant. His all-around work on the field has earned Vonschoech the Sacramento Bee Prep Player of the Week award, voted on by fans. According to Joe Davidson of the Bee, "Vonschoech, a gritty 5-foot-6, 155-pound senior who doesn't take any downs off, had 15 tackles (14 solo) from his defensive back spot, took inside handoffs at slot and rushed for 68 yards, ran pass routes and caught a 34-yard TD, hustled downfield on kickoffs and generally looked to be in fast forward with his long flowing hair snaking out of the back of his helmet like a jet stream. The only real breather he got was as a holder for point-after touchdowns. Vonschoech is proof that anyone can be an impact player if they work hard enough. "I just love to compete,'' he told Davidson. "I've done it since I was in the fifth grade, and being small, you have to work even harder. Next up for Vonschoech and the Eagles is a match up at home this Friday with Nevada Union of Grass Valley.

Ricky Vu (Los Amigos, Fountain Valley):
It took all of Vu's 258 yards on 31 carries and four TDs for Los Amigos to beat Segerstrom, 40-37, in the first round of the CIFSS Southern Division playoffs.

Anthony Wilkerson (Tustin):
Rolled up 268 yards while finding pay dirt four times as the Tillers showed no mercy en route to a 76-26 win over Magnolia of Anaheim in the CIFSS Southwest Division playoffs.

Jaron Wilson (Del Campo, Fair Oaks): Intercepted three passes and also completed a 35-yard touchdown pass in a Sac-Joaquin Section Division III opening round 24-18 upset win over Vanden on the road in Fairfield.

Robert Woods (Serra, Gardena): Continues to perform like a serious state junior player of the year as he hauled in nine receptions from QB Ted Landers for 232 yards and four touchdowns in a CIFSS Northwest Division first round playoff victory over Templeton. Although the Cavaliers didn't play their sharpest game, they still won by a 47-22 margin as Landers finished with 319 yards passing and five touchdowns. Woods also had an interception late in the game to seal the deal.

Ryan Zirbel & Desi Rodriguez (Saugus): Dynamic duo who led Saugus to its first-ever Foothill League title was at it again in a 29-17 CIFSS Northern Division playoff victory over Righetti of Santa Maria. Zirbel rushed 17 times for 213 yards (his fourth 200-yard game of the season) and one TD and also caught TD passes of 58 and 28 yards from Rodriguez, who rushed for 153 yards and added 94 passing yards in the win.

(For additions, corrections or to report a statistical standout we may have missed, email mark@studentsports.com. To inquire about a section or state record, please email Senior Editor Ronnie Flores at ronnie@studentsports.com or call (800) 660-1334 Ext. 4414; For games played Nov. 13-15; Writeups by Ronnie Flores, Harold Abend, Steve Brand, Tom Shanahan, Mark Tennis & Bob Barnett)

Trevor Alcoriza (Galt): His Warriors didn't make the Sac-Joaquin playoffs but this 5-foot-11, 170-pound senior running back finished his career on a high note, rushing for 164 yards and five touchdowns in a 34-14 win over Cordova of Rancho Cordova. The performance got him over 1,000-yards on the season as he finished with 1,065 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Zack Apperson (Norte Vista, Riverside):
Had a big chunk of Norte Vista's 539 yards as he rushed for 340 yards and three scores in a 54-31 victory over Jurupa Valley.

Justin Arias (Agoura, Agoura Hills): Did not get picked off once as he completed 21 of 29 passes for 310 yards and four TDs in a 49-18 win over Calabasas. Kevin Hansen had nine receptions for 123 yards and Bryce Majdick pulled in eight for 122 yards, with three going for scores.

Carlos Arredondo (Schurr, Montebello): Defensive back picked off two passes late in the fourth quarter to stymie a comeback attempt by Bell Gardens as Schurr recorded the 20-12 victory.

Dominique Barnes (Burroughs, Burbank): In the 60th edition of the "Big Game" between Burroughs and Burbank, Barnes etched his name in history by rushing for 302 yards and five touchdowns on 23 carries as Burroughs won its first consecutive game in the long-running series. Barnes' yardage total broke the single game school record of 289 yards set by Mike Perez during the 2000 season. Barnes also broke the school record for season points (162) and enters the post-season with 1,870 rushing yards.

Domenic Betts (Banning): Ended up scoring four times in the 60-12 rout of Riverside Patriot. He gained 123 yards on just three carries, scoring on 54 and 31-yard touchdowns. Betts also had a 73-yard punt return and an 85-yard kickoff return for a TD.

James Boyd (Jordan, Los Angeles): Closed out the regular season in spectacular fashion as the Bulldogs gear up for a run in the L.A. City Section Championship Division (4A) playoffs. In a 63-7 rout of South Gate, Boyd, a previous ESPN RISE CalHiSports.com State Athlete of the Week pick, completes 22 of 33 passes for a school-record 575 yards and eight touchdowns. The touchdown mark gives this talented QB-DE a permanent spot in out state record book and his passing yardage is quite high on the all-time state list. It is, however, only the third highest single game yardage mark in L.A. City Section history. David Koral of Palisades, threw for a section and state record 764 yards in a 48-30 victory over Van Nuys Grant in 2000. The year before, he ate up the defense of L.A. Fairfax to the tune of 583 yards in a 61-6 romp. Entering the city playoffs, Boys is averaging 372.1 yards passing in 10 games and has already thrown 40 touchdowns, not to mention the damage he can do running the ball or creating havoc on fellow quarterbacks from his defensive end spot. He was the L.A. City's defensive lineman of the year as a junior.

Tommy Brown (Army-Navy, Carlsbad): The running back for the all-boys military school carried 35 times for 260 yards and two touchdowns as the Warriors defeated Escondido Charter, 27-6.

Brad Bullock (El Diamante, Visalia): Rushed for a season high 268 yards on 12 carries, good for six touchdowns, as the Miners cruised by Golden West of Visalia, 53-34, in a West Yosemite League game. Quarterback Devin Lovering scored five touchdowns on 20 carries for 177 yards to lead Golden West.

Christian Bush (Knight, Palmdale): He missed the first quarter of play because of disciplinary reasons but made up for lost time thereafter, rushing for 253 yards and four touchdowns. Bush didn't waste any time as he scored on a 61-yard touchdown on his first carry.

Devontae Butler (Grant, Sacramento): The Pacers have a lot of weapons as it's shown in a 10-0 season that has them No. 7 overall in the state and the team to beat in the Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II playoffs. This past week it was Butler who led the way, rushing for 217 yards and four touchdowns. Grant will open the playoffs at home against 9-1 Granite Bay.

Darrian Cazarin (Alhambra): Threw for 274 yards and six touchdowns to lead the Moors to a 50-6 victory over cross-town Keppel. Cazarin threw touchdown passes of 31, 15, 83, 38, 9 and 45 yards as Keppel finished its season 0-10. Keppel has not won a league contest since 1999.

Moises Chavez (Glendale): Set a school record with five touchdown passes to lead the Nitros to a resounding 55-7 victory over cross-town Hoover in the "Battle for the Victory Bell." Dillon Fuller caught three of Chavez's passes for touchdowns covering 12, 28 and 69 yards as Glendale finished with its first winning season since 1993 and upped its advantage in the longtime series to 47-31-2.

Dan'ziel Collins & Jonathon Norton (Moreno Valley): Collins scored on four of his five carries (45, 47, 32 and 59 yards) while rushing for 183 yards to complement Norton's 184 yards and two scores in a 50-14 romp over La Sierra of Riverside.

Josh Correia (Nipomo): In a wild 42-41 win over Templeton, Correia was 16 of 33 for 291 yards, with the last of his three TDs going to Eric Penningroth from a yard out for the win with no time on the clock.

Robert Cruz (Magnolia, Anaheim): Helped secure Magnolia's first playoff berth in 23 years as Cruz rushed for 270 yards and all four touchdowns in a 28-17 triumph over Anaheim.

Brendan Daly (St. Ignatius, San Francisco): His Wildcats were edged out in the selection for the final spots in the CCS playoffs at Sunday's seeding meeting, however, on Friday night, no one, including 8,000 fans at Kezar Stadium for the annual Bruce-Mahoney game, knew the future. With 7:51 remaining in a 24-10 victory over cross-town rival Sacred Heart Cathedral, the 6-foot-3, 220-pound senior linebacker blocked an Irish punt, scooped it up and ran 52-yards to pay dirt. He already had forced a first half fumble.

Demitri Diamond (Hart, Newhall): Not only did Diamond rush for 186 yards on just six carries, two of them going for touchdowns, but he added a 99-yard kickoff return for another TD in a 47-0 win over Golden Valley of Santa Clarita. He also contributed two interceptions on defense.

Shane DeCillo and Jason Mayer (Trabuco Hills, Mission Viejo): DeCillo rushed for 223 yards and Mayer passed for 242 on a near-perfect 18 of 20 and four TDs as Trabuco Hills buried Northwood of Irvine, 49-0.

Donovan Dodd (Desert Christian, Bermuda Dunes): Amassed 243 yards on 24 carries and scored four touchdowns in a 49-36 win over the California Military Institute of Perris) in an eight-man game.

Nick Fedrick (Sonoma Valley, Sonoma): For the second straight week and third time this season, the 5-foot-10, 170-pound running back has rushed for over 200-yards. After going for 221 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-14 victory over Analy (Sebastopol) two weeks ago, Fedrick had a season-best 251 yards and one TD in a 40-20 non-league victory over San Marin of Novato. The Dragons won their last three games to finish 4-2 in the Sonoma County League and 5-5 overall, but lost out for the final spot in the NCS Div. II playoffs. Fedrick ends his season with 1,309 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns.

Arby Fields (Los Osos, Rancho Cucamonga): Piled up 257 yards on 39 carries, three of which were stopped only by the goal line, in a 27-14 victory over Etiwanda.

Ryan Flores (Sierra, Manteca): Versatile QB passed for 162 yards and one TD and rushed for 155 yards and two other scores to lead Sierra past Weston Ranch, 41-20. Flores also directed an offense that totaled 508 yards. The win put Sierra into the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs for the first time in school history. Weston Ranch QB Michael Piccirilli also had a big game, completing 25 of 42 passes for 387 yards and three TDs.

Tate Forcier (Scripps Ranch, San Diego):
The Michigan-bound quarterback finished with 385 yards total offense, but the Falcons fell to Cathedral Catholic in a wild shootout, 70-37. Forcier completed 21-of-36 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns and ran eight times for 93 yards.

Roshon Harper (El Camino Real, Woodland Hills): Churned for 234 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries in a 42-22 victory over Cleveland of Reseda.

Tyler Gaffney (Cathedral Catholic, San Diego):
The senior running back scored seven touchdowns to push his season touchdown total to 42as the Dons defeated Scripps Ranch, 70-37. Gaffney carried 26 times for 225 yards. He scored on four first-half runs of five, 12, one and one yards and broke open a 28-21 game in the second half with scoring runs of 51, four and 41 yards.

Jose Garay (South El Monte): Made the last game of his prep career count as he completed 26 of 35 passes for a whopping 474 yards in a 61-14 Mission Valley League win over Mountain View of El Monte. The yardage total permanently places him on the all-time state single game state list for passing yardage. He also tossed four touchdown passes and gained an additional 78 yards rushing and scored twice on the ground.

Wallace Gonzalez (Glendora):
Nine receptions is a good game but not spectacular unless those produce 197 yards as they did in Glendora's 21-14 win over Ayala of Chino Hills. QB Drew Kaluzny also played spectacularly, completing 15 of 21 passes for 285 yards and a pair of TDs.

David Graves & Andrew Benavides (Folsom):
This passing/receiving duo got it done when needed as the Bulldogs rebounded from a 35-33 loss to Pleasant Grove of Elk Grove, winning by a 35-32 score against Sheldon of Sacramento this past Friday. Graves completed 22 of 30 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 51 yards and two more scores. Benavides had 126 receiving yards against Sheldon and eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark this season with 1,015 and 15 touchdowns. Next up is a road game against powerful Napa in the Sac-Joaquin Div. I playoffs.

Zack Graves (Whitney, Rocklin):
The Sac-Joaquin Section reported rushing leader ran for 215 yards on 35 carries and scored three touchdowns in a 34-12 win over Placer. Graves now has 1,960 yards rushing with 30 touchdowns. He's also has thrown five halfback option passes for TDs and caught a scoring pass to account for 36 touchdowns overall. He'll get a chance to add to those numbers when the 10-0 Wildcats open at home against Foothill of Sacramento.

Joseph Hill (Fullerton):
Big night for the King of the Hill as he rushed for 272 yards on 27 carries and five touchdowns in a 55-21 victory over Troy of Fullerton.

Jamie Jensen (Gilroy): After a sub-par performance in a 42-14 loss to North Salinas two weeks ago, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound signal-caller was over the top in a 47-0 blowout against San Benito of Hollister, passing for 470 yards and three touchdowns on 30 of 36 attempts. The win left the Mustangs in a three-way tie for the Tri-County League title with North Salinas and Gilroy. Going into this Friday's home game against Serra of San Mateo, Jensen has compiled 2,902 yards passing with 27 touchdowns.

Rasheem Johnson (Indio):
Rambled for 255 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Rajahs past Coachella Valley's Arabs, 35-7. Three of his scores came before the break.

Richard Johnson (Fairmont Prep, Anaheim):
Fell just short of the single-game Southern Section TD record when he scored eight touchdowns and 54 points in a 67-0 win over Ribet Academy of Los Angeles. Johnson gained 290 yards on 18 carries.

Steven Klith (Calaveras, San Andreas): In the team's annual Calaveras County rivalry game against Bret Harte of Altaville, Klith led the Redskins past the Bullfrogs, 35-24, by rushing for 214 yards on 20 carries and scoring a pair of touchdowns.

Jimmy Laughrea & Steven Hurley (Rocklin): It was a tough year for the Thunder but mostly because of this pair, it ended on a good note in a 26-18 win over Roseville that left the team 4-6 on the season. Laughrea passed for 243 yards and three touchdowns and caught a halfback option pass for a touchdown. Hurley had two interceptions, including one late in the game that helped preserve the win.

Joey Levine (Clayton Valley, Concord): For the second straight week, Levine connected on 8-of-8 passes, this time for 256 yards and three TDs, as the Eagles defeated their arch-rivals from Ygnacio Valley, 26-7. Levine enters the North Coast Section playoffs with at least a 16-for-16 completion streak and has led Clayton Valley to its first unbeaten regular season in the 50 years the school has been open.

DeWayne Lewis & Vince Mayle (Inderkum, Sacramento):
Senior running back Lewis rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns and had 10 tackles in Inderkum's 55-6 win over cross-town Natomas. Mayle, also a two-way threat at 'backer, ran for a TD, had two sacks and knocked down two passes.

Daniel Lopez (San Fernando): Lopez had a career night, rushing for 273 yards and scoring three touchdowns in the Tigers 33-8 victory over Monroe of Sepulveda. He did his damage on 17 carries and according to the San Fernando High Record Book (easily one of the best we've ever seen in the state), this year's San Fernando club became only the third team in school history to feature a 1,000 yard rusher and a 1,000 yard passer (Rashaad Reynolds). Legendary Tiger Anthony Davis passed for 1,673 yards and rushed for 1,568 yards in 1970 and the 1978 club that finished 10-1 actually featured a 1,000-yard passer (Stephen Jones) and two 1,000-yard rushers (Anthony Gibson, Robert McClanahan). That team was coached by Bill Marsh, who actually holds the single game school record for rushing yards with 360 in a 33-7 victory over Cleveland of Reseda back in 1964.

Conor Lowery (Miramonte, Orinda): Not only did this quarterback/defensive back have a hand in five of the six Matadors' touchdowns, he had an interception late in the game that secured a 42-34 victory over Alhambra of Martinez. Lowery threw four touchdown passes and returned a fumble 75 yards to pay dirt for the fifth score.

Mason Magleby (Del Oro, Loomis): The Golden Eagle faithful suffered through a disappointing 4-6 season and missed the playoffs, but last Friday they had a few final cheers for Magleby and the boys in a 37-9 home victory over Oakmont of Roseville. Playing in his final game, the senior signal-caller completed 20 of 29 passes for 310 yards and three touchdowns and kicked a 19-yard field goal to boot.

Malcolm Marable (Alemany, Mission Hills):
Rushed for 225 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead Alemany to a 33-13 victory over tough-luck St. Paul of Santa Fe Springs. The win clinched the Mission League title for the Warriors while the Swordsmen failed to make the playoffs against a challenging regular season schedule.

Mason Mills (Coronado):
The Islanders quarterback accounted for 300 total yards once again as he led his team to a 41-7 rout of San Diego Morse. Mason completed 15-of-20 passes for 275 yards and four touchdowns and he ran five times for 49 yards for a total of 324 yards.

Jose Mendez (Fowler): Standout running back galloped for a season high of 250 yards on 20 carries and scored one touchdown of 38 yards as Fowler beat Caruthers, 28-0, in a West Sequoia League game.

Carlos Morales (La Salle, Pasadena): Rushed for a season-high 230 yards on 27 carries, but the Knights' of Bishop Montgomery came from behind to win, 41-35.

Tim Morovick, Tahquitz (Hemet):
Put up some nice numbers for the first-year school. Morovick completed 11 of 26 passes for 302 yards and TDs of 79 and 74 yards to Cody Piecukonis (four catches for 180 yards), but it wasn't enough in a 52-24 loss to Citrus Hill of Perris.

Adam Muema (Charter Oak, Covina):
Piled up 268 yards on 22 carries while scoring four times in a 48-10 win over Bonita of La Verne.

Adam Mullen (Tehachapi):
Enjoyed a career high by rushing for 236 yards on 29 carries and scoring two touchdowns as Tehachapi slipped by Shafter, 24-18, in a South Sequoia League game.

Akeelie Muhammed (Cypress): Powered Cypress past Pacifica of Garden Grove, 49-21, by rushing for 253 yards and five touchdowns, as Cypress captured its first Empire League title in a decade.

Jason Peters (Coleville): This QB is from an eight-man team that plays in a Nevada league, but his numbers will go into our California record book and what numbers they are. Last week, in Coleville's eight-man state semifinal game against Pahranagat Valley of Alamo, Nevada, Peters completed 31 of 44 passes for 519 yards and a whopping 10 touchdowns. Problem was that his team still lost, 128-74. Pahranagat Valley set a national eight-man scoring record in the game and blew open a 62-52 game at halftime by recovering five onside kicks in the third quarter.

Patrick Peterson (Ventura): When Santa Barbara's John Uribe put the ball up 49 times, Peterson was there to pick off five of them and help Ventura collect a 52-28 Channel League win. The interception total places him on the all-time single game state list, but the reported state record is six by Weston Borba of Chowchilla, who accomplished the remarkable feat during a 30-17 victory over Oakhurst Yosemite during the 1998 season.

Gregory Portis (Servite, Anaheim): Slippery back rushed for 232 yards and hit pay dirt four times in the Friars' 48-31 victory over St. John Bosco of Bellflower. Servite opens the post-season against Lakewood in an attractive CIFSS Pac-Five Division playoff game.

Keith Price (St. John Bosco, Bellflower):
Price was mentioned as a Mr. Football candidate by CalHiSports.com, but he just might be the best individual player in the state that won't enjoy the luxury of competing in the playoffs. The Braves finished 2-3 in league play and were not chose for the single at-large bid in the CIFSS Pac-Five Division playoffs. St. John Bosco was downed by Servite of Anaheim, 48-31, last week but Price did his best to keep his team in contention, accounting for 338 yards and three touchdowns. He completed 14 of 25 passes for 203 yards and also game a team-high 135 yards rushing.

Kevin Ramay & Max Leffler (Grace Brethren, Simi Valley): The two tried everything they could, putting up big numbers, but it wasn't enough in a 42-40 loss to Santa Paula. Ramay completed 27 of 40 passes for 336 yards and two TDs while running for two others. Leffler caught 10 passes for 133 yards and two TDs.

Adam Ramirez (Kaiser, Fontana): Gained 229 yards on 18 carries, scoring four times, in a 35-14 victory over Patriot of Riverside. Anthony Brown added 117 yards on 21 carries as the 'Cats rushed for 435 yards.

Deon Randall (Francis Parker, San Diego):
The Lancers quarterback scored five touchdowns in a 45-21 win over Christian in a game that decided the Coastal League title. He finished with 18 carries for 158 yards.

Jontell Reedom (Tulare): There aren't many career highs he can break but he did last week by scoring six touchdowns of 64, 12, 25, 8, 1, 10 yards against cross-town rival Tulare Western. The Redskins won, 63-0, in the East Yosemite League game and finished the regular season with a 10-0 record.

Ryan Rodriguez (Freedom, Oakley):
Senior signal-caller passed for 295 yards and five touchdowns in a 41-15 victory over Liberty of Brentwood. He now has 2,516 yards passing this season with 29 touchdowns for the 9-1 Falcons. Add in 397 yards rushing with five TDs and his totals are 2,913 yards and 34 touchdowns. Rodriquez will get at least one more game to add to his totals when Freedom opens the NCS Div. I playoffs at home this Friday against James Logan of Union City.

Kaleb Sawday (Templeton):
Chalked up 337 yards by completing 19 of 28 passes with three touchdowns, but it wasn't enough in a 42-41 loss to Nipomo. Kris Dearie caught seven passes for 160 yards and a 73-yard TD.

Sean Schroeder (Dana Hills, Dana Point): Passing for 319 yards, including scoring tosses of 39, 25 and 15 yards, but the Dolphins were no match for Tesoro, losing to the state-ranked Titans, 56-26.

Rickey Seale (Escondido):
The junior running back once again showed he's one of the most explosive players in San Diego as he carried 17 times for 321 yards and four touchdowns in the Cougars' 45-14 Avocado League win over San Pasqual of Escondido. The son of former NFL defensive back Sammy Seale scored on runs of 81, 62, 32 and 35 yards.

David Sjelin (Modesto Christian): A safety on defense, Sjelin picked off three passes to lead the Crusaders past Ripon Christian, 51-19, in their regular season finale. Sjelin also had two touchdown catches on offense.

Tyrell Smallwood Jr. (Pinole Valley, Pinole):
According to the Contra Costa Times, Smallwood Jr. ran every way but backwards against the host Hercules Titans on Friday night in the Spartans' regular-season-ending 42-0 win - and he did it all in the first half. He galloped four times to pay dirt and gained 221 rushing yards on 14 carries.

Zack Smith (Laguna Beach): A 304-yard rushing night, with TDs of 83, 10 and one yard, wasn't enough as the Artists were downed by Costa Mesa, 38-30.

Joe Southwick, Brett Trimble & Garrison Goodman (San Ramon Valley, Danville): They say anything can happen in a rivalry game and that's just what happened when this trio combined to lead SRV to its biggest victory of the year, a 26-7 mild upset of cross-town arch-rival and state-ranked Monte Vista. The win also ended a three-game losing streak. Boise State-bound signal-caller Southwick completed 16 of 22 passes for 265 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 50 yards and a second score. Fullback Trimble ran for two TDs and caught a Southwick pass for a third score while linebacker Garrison picked off Mustang quarterback Brett Nottingham twice.

Tra Sumler (Rosemead): Helped the Panthers finish unbeaten in the Mission Valley League and clinch their first outright league title in three seasons with a 248-yard, three touchdown performance. Rosemead defeated Arroyo of El Monte, 50-12, and finished the regular season 8-2 heading into the CIFSS Mid-Valley League Division playoffs.

Erwin Taliaoa (Overfelt, San Jose):
The Royals won't be going to the playoffs so there is a possibility Omari Carr of Oak Grove may pass the current CCS' reported rushing leader. The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder finished in fine fashion, rushing for 254 yards and four touchdowns in a 36-0 whitewash of cross-town Lick. Taliaoa ended his senior season with 1,820 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Nick Tenhaeff (Atascadero):
Power-packed senior had a stellar night to lead the Greyhounds past Paso Robles, 38-21, in a game that decided the Pac 7 League title. Behind his offensive line and fullback Trevor Holloway (who had many crushing blocks), Tenhaeff rushed for 258 yards and five TDs. Holloway, Tenhaeff and Michael Lombardi led a defense that held Paso to 17 points below its league average. Holloway had 12 tackles including one for loss and one batted down pass. Lombardi had 11 tackles plus a sack and Tenhaeff chimed in with five tackles and a sack. Tenhaeff's night brings his season totals to 1,653 yards and 24 rushing TDs.

John Uribe & Bryson Lloyd (Santa Barbara): Uribe and Lloyd posted some big numbers but it was all for naught in a 52-28 loss to Ventura. Uribe completed 25 of 49 for 324 yards and four TDs while Lloyd gobbled in 11 of the tosses for 165 yards in a losing effort.

Anthony Wilkerson (Tustin): You'd think rushing for 307 yards, including scores of 78, 26 and three yards, would be enough to deliver a win but the Tillers fell 28-23 to El Dorado of Placentia.

Marquise Williams (Monrovia): Rushed for 193 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-19 victory over San Marino. That was actually his total in the third quarter as the Titans lead 7-0 at halftime before reeling off 27 third quarter points. Williams finished with 293 yards and four touchdowns, finishing the regular season as the Rio Hondo League's leading rusher.

Jonathan Wimberly (Wasco):
Blew up for a career high of 306 yards rushing on 26 carries and scored three touchdowns of one, 26, 47 yards against Shafter. Wasco won the South Sequoia League game, 37-26.

Anthony Vitto (Chaminade, Mission Hills):
His 292-yard, five-touchdown performance under center led the Eagles to a 39-34 victory over St. Francis of La Canada in the Mission League. Vitto's passing performance helped the victors overcome a 293-yard rushing effort by St. Francis' Dietrich Riley.

Ryan Zirbel (Saugus):
Helped the Centurions finish with an unbeaten slate in the Foothill League for the first time since joining the loop in 1992 by rushing for 231 yards and three touchdowns in a 56-28 victory over Canyon of Canyon Country. Zirbel hit pay dirt from 80, 52, and four yards as Saugus enters the CIFSS Northern Division playoffs with a 7-3 overall mark.

(For additions, corrections or to report a statistical standout we may have missed, email mark@studentsports.com. To inquire about a section or state record, please email Senior Editor Ronnie Flores at ronnie@studentsports.com or call (800) 660-1334 Ext. 4414; For games played Oct. 2-4; Writeups by Ronnie Flores, Harold Abend, Steve Brand, Tom Shanahan, Mark Tennis & Bob Barnett)

Jordan Adamczyk & Chris Rivas (Canyon, Canyon Country): Adamczyk broke Nate Longshore's single game school record of 397 yards passing during a 35-21 win over Chaminade of West Hills. He completed 18 of 27 passes for 402 yards and tossed five touchdown passes for the victorious Cowboys. Rivas was his favorite target, as he caught 13 passes for Adamczyk for 301 yards and four touchdowns. Rivas' catch total and touchdown reception total was a school record and his yardage total puts him permanently in our state record book. The single game receiving mark is held by Ramon Nevarez from Bolsa Grande of Garden Grove, who hauled in eight catches for 377 yards during a 53-23 victory over La Quinta of Westminster in 1996.

Usua Amanam (Bellarmine, San Jose):
Suffering from mononucleosis and only cleared to play Friday morning, Amanam went out that night at St. Ignatius (San Francisco) and showed no signs of suffering from the malady. With temporary lights installed for the first on-campus night game in San Francisco prep history, the juice was certainly flowing, but it was all coming from the Bells' Amanam. The 5-foot-9, 175-pound Stanford-bound running back figuratively turned out the lights, rushing for 237 yards and four touchdowns in a 50-14 blasting of the Wildcats. He scored on runs of 26, 36, 4 and 47 yards.

Ash Anaya (Vista del Lago, Folsom): The fairly new school is only in its second year of fielding a varsity football team but this 5-11, 180-pound linebacker has learned how to tackle pretty quickly. His team lost a close one 14-13 to Galt, but Anaya had 16 tackles.

Cedric Anderson (Edison, Stockton): Promising sophomore came up with two picks on defense while on offense he passed for 280 yards and three touchdowns as the Vikings topped Beyer of Modesto, 34-17.

Eric Beverly (Lincoln, San Francisco): Following in the footsteps of Lincoln's last great runner and sprinter David Henderson (now at City College of San Francisco), this junior running back rushed for 308 yards and four touchdowns on 44 carries and told the San Francisco Chronicle "it felt like practice" after the game. His heroics helped the Mustangs erase a 12-point deficit en route to a 56-41 victory over cross town Mission High in a game at Kezar Stadium.

Matt Bocci, Matt Walter & Alek Konopnicki (Sacred Heart Prep, Atherton): All three went over the century mark rushing in a 42-19 victory over Capuchino of San Bruno. Bocci had 131 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries, while Walter and Konopnicki ran for 129 and 114 yards respectively.

Matt Botello (Pioneer, Norwalk): In a non-league victory over Bolsa Grande of Garden Grove, Botello bolted for 256 yards rushing on 25 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead his team to a 27-0 victory.

Travis Buick (University Prep, Redding): The past two weeks Buick has been running more like a Caddie and his team is riding the rumble seat to a 4-1 record. Two weeks ago in a 31-6 victory over Hayfork, he cruised to 222 yards on 20 carries with two touchdowns. This past week in a 31-19 win against Mercy of Red Bluff, Buick fired on all cylinders, finishing with 264 yards on 36 carries.

Brandon Buteyn (Paraclete, Lancaster):
During a 34-12 win against Grace Brethren of Simi Valley, the senior rushed for 266 yards and scored two touchdowns on 15 carries. Buteyn led the Spirits in total offense (266), scoring (12) and all-purpose yards (308).

Kylan Butler, Blake Wayne, Tyler Anderson & James Cannon (De La Salle, Concord): Very rarely, even in a blowout, do four runners go over 100 yards rushing. That is unless you're De La Salle. Arizona-bound Kylan Butler led the way in a 56-10 trouncing of Granada of Livermore. He finished with 146 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Quarterback Blake Wayne (seven carries, 143 yards, one touchdown), backup Tyler Anderson (five carries, 109 yards, three touchdowns) and James Cannon (eight carries, 110 yards, two touchdowns) also eclipsed the century mark.

Jordan Canada (Duarte): Rumbled for 238 yards on 15 carries and scored four touchdowns in Duarte's 55-39 victory over Sierra Vista of Baldwin Park. He scored on runs of 5, 21, 40 and 55 yards.

Cody Cardenaz (Burbank): In a 35-14 victory over Pasadena, Cardenaz led the way offensively with six receptions for 209 yards. Three of his receptions went for scores, including a school record 98-yarder. The previous school mark was a 92-yard reception by Juni Williams in a game versus Hart of Newhall back in 1997.

John Cardona & Josh Harmon (Chatsworth): Kennedy of Granada Hills had trouble generating any offense against Chatsworth and Cardona and Harmon were a big reason why. Both intercepted two passes on defense while Cardona completed 13 of 17 passes for 230 yards and three scores. His favorite target was, you guessed it, Harmon, as he caught five passes for 155 yards and a touchdown.

Amir Carlisle (King's Academy, Sunnyvale):
Sophomore transfer from Valley Christian of San Jose had long scoring runs of 76 and 75 yards and finished with 271 yards rushing in all as King's Academy downed Burlingame, 41-14. The team improved to 5-0 and should be in the mix in the NorCal CIF small schools bowl division rankings for the rest of the season.

Omari Carr (Oak Grove, San Jose): Before this year it was Omari's twin brother, defensive back/wide receiver and hot college recruit Jabari, that was getting all the ink. In a 21-7 win against Pioneer of San Jose, the 5-9, 170-pound Carr rushed for 233 yards and two touchdowns in 23 carries, including an 83-yard jaunt in which he zigzagged his way to paydirt. The Eagles are 4-0 and Carr has snagged the No. 5 spot in reported rushing leaders in the CCS.

Thomas Carter (Cajon, San Bernardino): In his first start of the season, the Cowboys' quarterback passed for 338 yards and four TDs in a 40-14 win over La Quinta.

Darrian Cazarin (Alhambra): Torched South Pasadena's secondary to the tune of 369 yards passing in Alhambra's 43-14 victory. Cazarin, a junior, completed 13 of 20 passes before intermission for 341 of his total passing yards. His main target was Brian Gonzalez, who finished with seven catches for 194 yards and two of Cazarin's three touchdowns. On special teams, he booted two field goals, five extra-points and recorded five touchbacks. Through four games, he's thrown for 1,044 yards and 11 scores while completing 58 percent of his passes.

Frankie Cota & Cory Maulupe (Pacific Lutheran, Torrance):
In a wild 80-50 non-league eight-man victory over Noli Indian at Sodoba Oaks Ranch in San Jacinto, Cota and Maulupe combined for 517 yards passing and seven touchdowns. Cota finished with 320 yards and five touchdowns on 26 of 36 passing while Maulupe tossed 33 passes, completing 20 for 197 yards and two scores. Neither signal-caller had a pass intercepted.

Maurice Culpepper (Citrus Hill, Perris): Listed as a wide receiver and defensive back, Culpepper showed why in Citrus Hill's 55-26 win over Banning. He caught six passes for 154 yards, three of them going for touchdowns, while on the offensive side of the ball and picked off two passes as a DB.

Colton Danz (Tamalpais, Mill Valley): This 5-foot-9, 185-pound hard-nosed senior running back/linebacker was instrumental in helping the Red Tailed Hawks open 4-0 for the first time in four decades after a 39-3 trouncing of rival Drake of San Anselmo. Danz, who gave up the starting quarterback job midway through last year's 0-10 season, fought off cramps to finish with 132 yards rushing on 12 carries with two touchdowns, including a 72-yarder, in three quarters of action. Danz also passed for 22 yards. On defense he had a sack, recovered a fumble, and finished with 11 tackles.

Jesse Diaz (Roosevelt, Los Angeles): Accounted for 327 yards in the Roughriders' 32-13 victory over South Gate. He completed 18 of 30 passes for 226 yards and added 101 yards rushing on only eight carries.

Jonathan Diaz (Chaparral, Temecula): Returning 1,000 yard rusher, who is still only a junior, churned his way for 202 yards in Chap's 42-31 victory over Santa Margarita on the road. Diaz did his damage on 22 carries and scored three touchdowns. His 59-yard dash to pay dirt knotted the game at 7-7 and his eight-yard jaunt put the Pumas ahead for good. Chap's defense also played a whale of a game, as the Pumas recorded eight sacks, including three by DT Mike Sikorski and two and a half by fellow tackle David Watkins.

Julian Dean-Johnson (North, Bakersfield):
Put on a one-man show by rushing for 283 yards on 23 carries and scoring three touchdowns of 17,69, 70 yards in the second quarter as the Stars beat Frontier, 25-20, in a Southwest Yosemite League opener.

Josh Edwards (Ceres):
Connected for 21 of 34 passes for 330 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-34 loss to Sonora. With three seconds left, Edwards fired a 39-yard scoring pass to Justin Canatsy, but the Bulldogs were still a point short of perhaps pulling off an upset of the Wildcats. They went for two, but Edwards was sacked, which gave Sonora the one-point win.

Noah Fagundes (Lemoore):
Ran for a career high by rushing for 291 yards on 28 carries and scored four touchdowns, on runs of 1, 4, 25, and 3, against Hanford West in West Yosemite League game. Lemoore won the scorefest, 38-31.

Steven Fanua (Milpitas): The Trojans (3-1) lost their first game but it was no fault of the 6-1, 215-pound linebacker who recorded 19 tackles in a 27-24 loss to Wilcox of San Jose. Earlier in the season the reported CCS leader in tackles with 59 had 23 tackles in a 28-3 win over Newark Memorial of Newark.

Dylan Finch (Golden Valley, Bakersfield): Young QB had a big night passing, going for 297 yards on 24-of-41 and throwing for four touchdowns, but came up on the short end against Garces, losing 32-28 in a Southeast Yosemite League contest.

Sebastian Frausto (La Costa Canyon, Carlsbad): The first-year starter at quarterback threw for 288 yards with two touchdown passes and added a touchdown rushing in a 47-3 win over Rancho Buena Vista. He finished 18-of-33 without an interception. One of his touchdown tosses was 53 yards to Kenny Stills.

David Graves & Tyler Trosin (Folsom):
The team's quarterback and leading rusher, Graves threw for 316 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a fourth score in the Bulldogs' 35-26 win over Franklin of Elk Grove. Trosin added a 94-yard kickoff return for a score in the nine-point victory. On the season, Graves, the reported Sac-Joaquin combined yardage leader has 943 yards passing and 12 touchdowns and 300 yards rushing with five scores.

Kevin Greene & Desarte Yarnway (Sacred Heart Cathedral, San Francisco): After all was said and done, the Irish celebrated a return to WCAL action for the first time since 1989 with a 24-3 trouncing of St. Francis of Mountain View. Running back Yarnway had his usual game, rushing for 165 yards and two touchdowns, but it was Greene who really stole the show. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound defensive end was like a Whirling Dervish in the Lancer backfield, finishing with seven sacks. That mark is one shy of the state record for sacks in a game. Earlier this season in a 19-14 loss to Deer Valley of Antioch, Greene recorded three sacks. So strong was Greene's performance that he was the runner-up for this week's ESPNRISE CalHiSports.com California State Boys Athlete of the Week.

John Harris (Riverside Christian): In a 31-7 win over Downey Calvary Christian, Harris rushed for 233 yards with only the end zone slowing him down on three of his rushing attempts.

Aaron Horne (Castlemont, Oakland): This receiver did his best Reggie Bush impersonation, scoring on a 65-yard reception, a 71-yard punt return, and a 36-yard reverse in a 34-15 Knights' victory over Salesian of Richmond. Horne finished with 240 all-purpose yards on only six touches. He now has 10 touchdowns on the season.

Stefphon Jefferson (El Diamante, Visalia): Helped keep his Miners unbeaten by rushing for 304 yards, 152 coming in the first quarter and 296 in the first half, in a 54-13 win over Mt. Whitney of Visalia. Jefferson also scored three touchdowns on runs of 12, 4, and 11 yards.

Ken Johnston, Andrew Melendrez & Mike Manas (Carmel): This 6-1, 180-pound senior, the reported passing leader in the CCS, exploded last week in a 48-7 win against King City. He completed 24 of 29 passes for 409 yards and five touchdowns. He also rushed eight times for 39 yards for a combined 448 yards of total offense. Eight balls and 188 yards were to Melendrez, who had two touchdowns and also kicked four extra points. Manas had 103 yards receiving and one TD.

Daniel Kingen (Fresno Christian): Led his team to its first win of the season against Kings Christian of Lemoore, 34-20, as he scored three touchdowns and ran for 208 yards on 29 carries.

James Lee, Jeremiah Oates & Cody Barsam (Capital Christian, Sacramento):
Junior quarterback Lee, the reported passing leader in the Sac-Joaquin Section, passed for a school record six touchdowns and 305 yards on only 10 of 15 passing. Oates pulled in three balls, all for scores and had 136 yards receiving as well as an interception on defense. Barsam rushed for 155 yards and one TD. The result was a 56-14 victory over San Juan of Fair Oaks.

Vontrail Love (Hanford West, Hanford): Piled up 233 yards on 23 carries and scored three touchdowns, on runs of 78, 71 and 1, in a West Yosemite League game, but Hanford West still lost, 38-31, to Lemoore.

Sean Mannion (Foothill, Pleasanton):
Although his team lost the game, 41-31, and he lost the personal duel with Monte Vista of Danville's Brett Nottingham, the 6-foot-4, 185-pound junior still had one heck of an effort. Co-coach Jim Mannion's son had an excellent outing in the setback, throwing for 336 yards and three touchdowns.

James McConico (Compton): In a 68-20 victory over Cabrillo of Long Beach, McConico didn't touch the ball much, but when he did he made it count. He carried the ball six times, but three went for scores and he finished with 188 yards rushing. He also caught a touchdown pass to boot as the Tarbabes improved their record to 4-0 on the season. In the past two games, McConico has gained 330 yards rushing and hit paydirt six times...on only 10 carries!

Christian McCrimon (Anchorpoint Christian, Gilroy): The reported CCS scoring leader added two rushing and two receiving touchdowns, and twice scored on two-point conversions, in a 48-28 win intersection win against Lighthouse Christian of Bakersfield. He did it by rushing for 168 yards on 17 carries, and catching three passes for 65 yards. His 94-point leading total is comprised of 11 rushing and two receiving TDs and 10 two-point conversions.

Joshua McDaniels (Morse, San Diego): The junior wide receiver caught two touchdown passes to lead Morse to a 37-17 win over San Diego High that broke the Tigers' 25-game losing streak. McDaniels' scores were from 13 and 11 yards out. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Morse was a statewide power
that finished No. 2 in the overall state ratings in 1990.

Sean McGowan (Oxnard): Good thing the Oxnard coaches decided to use the 5-foot-9 McGowan sparingly after intermission since he gained 209 of his 227 yards before the break, scoring three times in a 47-7 victory over San Marcos of Santa Barbara. With the easy win the Yellowjackets now own a 4-0 record.

Ryan McLaughlin (Cathedral Catholic, San Diego): The Dons' safety picked off two passes, one that he returned 54 yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter, for a 21-0 lead in a 42-14 rout of Otay Ranch. McLaughlin intercepted the deep pass over the middle and weaved his wave through tacklers to the end zone.

Josh Moten (Narbonne, Harbor City):
Moten helped the Gauchos overcome 16 penalties and an injury to star DB Byron Moore that knocked him out of the Gauchos' game with Westchester of Los Angeles. On top of that, Narbonne played without injured starters Sean Parker and Melvin Davis and lost lineman Justin Brown with a broken wrist in the first half. Moten delivered when his team needed him the most, passing for 285 yards and a score while rushing for 59 yards and two more scores.

Derek Muaava (Independence, San Jose):
His team lost 26-21 to cross-town Del Mar but it was no fault of the big, strong 6-1, 205-pound junior running back. For the night, the 76ers' star ran for 303 yards on 31 carries and caught two balls for another 33 yards. To the chagrin of the Independence faithful he never found paydirt. On the season he now has 725 yards rushing and 155 yards receiving, plus a TD option pass for 75 yards. All told, 955 yards of combined offense.

Donnay Ragland (Artesia, Lakewood):
Went from Rags to riches during the Pioneers' 48-0 victory over Bellflower. Ragland struck gold with five touchdown passes as he completed 12 of 16 passes for 286 yards.

Nick Ramos (Hillcrest Christian, Granada Hills):
Hit paydirt a whopping seven times on only 13 carries during a 68-14 victory over Liberty Christian. Ramos rushed for a total of 243 yards while teammate Jesse Goens added 175 yards and two scores and four two-point conversions.

Karsen Reedy (Crescenta Valley, La Crescenta): Did his best John Elway impersonation in the Falcons' 34-32 comeback win over Burroughs of Burbank. With his team down 32-28 with 5:34 left in the game, Reedy readied the troops from his own 20-yard line as he accounted for all 80 yards on that game-clinching drive. He passed for 34 yards on the drive, rushed for 46 yards and scored on the three-yard bolt. In all, he accounted for 333 yards of total offense.

Ryan Rodriguez (Freedom, Oakley): According to San Francisco Chronicle prep sports editor Will McCulloch, this 5-foot-7, 164-pound senior quarterback was equally impressive both as a passer and runner in the Falcons' 62-42 offensively explosive victory over College Park of Pleasant Hill. All in all he accounted for six touchdowns. As a passer Rodriguez completed 21 of 27 passes for 286 yards and four touchdowns. Running the ball he scampered for 133 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries out of a no-huddle shotgun formation used by Coach Kevin Hartwig.

Matt Ross (Placer, Auburn):
The Hillmen's senior signal caller makes the stat stars by virtue of his perfect 10-for-10 passing for 253 yards and three touchdowns in Placer's 49-20 win over Mesa Verde of Citrus Heights.

Omar Sanchez (Arleta):
Led the Mustangs to a 43-14 victory over Cleveland of Reseda by rushing for 217 yards and four touchdowns.

Lyndell Scarr (Ponderosa, Shingle Springs): The reported Sac-Joaquin Section leading rusher, junior tailback Scarr ran for 204 yards and four touchdowns on 11 carries in a 49-24 Bruin victory over Cordova of Rancho Cordova. He now has 910 yards and eight touchdowns on the season.

Corey Smith (Desert Chapel, Palm Springs):
In eight-man competition they only played half a game against West Shores of Salton City since the Mercy Rule went into effect at the break but Smith put up some gaudy numbers anyway. The Eagles led 62-0 at intermission, but that was enough for Smith to score six touchdowns. He had 125 yards receiving, 101 yards in punt returns and 1 TD rushing...more than enough for a full game.

Joe Southwick (San Ramon Valley, Danville): This signal caller doesn't even need a reservation to dine at the stat stars dinner table each week. A seat is already reserved. For the second straight week, Southwick accounted for five touchdowns. The Boise State-bound signal caller completed 16 of 19 passes for 330 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed three times for 39 yards and one score.

Joss Strauss (Tehachapi): Set a new school record by rushing for 304 yards on 23 carries as Tehachapi trounced Rosamond, 34-8. Strauss he did not score, but he surpassed the old record set by Eric Young of 291 yards in 1989.

Tra Sumler (Rosemead): Dashed for 221 yards on 28 carries with three touchdowns to lead his team to a 45-14 victory over Temple City.

Peter Thomas (Valhalla, El Cajon):
The junior quarterback threw for 333 yards, three touchdowns and booted four extra-points as the Norsemen defeated Grossmont of La Mesa, 34-0. Thomas was 26-of-32 with touchdown tosses of 16, 6 and 5 yards. Valhalla improved to 4-0 under coach Steve Sutton, who is in his second year of bringing his wide-open passing game to Valhalla after a long tenure at West Hills.

John Uribe (Santa Barbara): Set a school record passing in Friday night's 51-21 victory over San Luis Obispo in leading the Dons to their first victory of the season. He torched SLO's defense for a whopping 581 yards on 28 of 34 passing. He also found receivers for seven touchdowns in the 30-point win. Uribe's yardage mark also set a Santa Barbara County record and is the No. 2 all-time mark in the Southern Section behind San Bernardino's Robert Fuller's 604 yards against Pacific of San Bernardino in 2006.

Brian Veeh (La Canada):
Booted five field goals during a 35-8 victory over Firebaugh of Lynwood. Veeh also scored an offensive touchdown in the win.

Hunter Warren (Diamond Bar): Had a great all-around game, throwing the game-winning touchdown to running back Robert Ignacio in a 33-28 victory over Troy of Fullerton. He also rushed for 128 yards, completed 16 of 26 passes for 235 yards and kicked field goals for good measure.

Daniel Wheeler (Templeton): In a game played two weeks ago, Wheeler had three interceptions in the first quarter against King City. He also returned one of the picks for a TD. Wheeler, a 6-0, 170-pound junior, had five interceptions in his first three games.

Tyler Wilcox (Rio Vista):
The reported leading rusher in the Northern Section is one of the big reasons the Rams have started the season 6-0. Last week in a 37-6 victory over Mt. Shasta, he rushed for 201 yards with two touchdowns and caught a 38-yard pass. On the season, he has 972 yards on the ground with 12 touchdowns. Receiving he's tallied 151 yards and three TDs. The 15 touchdowns are second best in the section so far.

Keenen Williams (Laguna Creek, Elk Grove):
Senior running back rushed for a whopping 291 yards on 31 carries with two touchdowns but it wasn't enough, as the Cardinals fell for the second week in a row, this time 27-17 to Sheldon of Sacramento.

Mark Wright (Rolling Hills Prep, San Pedro):
Only a freshman, Wright came up with three interceptions in his school's 42-16 victory over First Lutheran. A safety and back-up quarterback, the young gun also scored on a two-yard touchdown run.

Sean Young (Garden Grove):
When this junior drops back to punt, be careful. Young's 80-yard touchdown out of punt formation keyed a 253-yard rushing night on just 19 carries. He scored four times to lead the Argonauts to a 42-24 victory over Laguna Beach.

Ryan Zirbel (Saugus): Although his team lost a non-league showdown to Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks, 52-28, Zirbel played a fine game with 218 yards rushing to go along with five receptions for 55 yards. He scored on a 73-yard run while QB Desi Rodriguez accounted for 300 total yards, but the Centurions were unable to stop Notre Dame QB Ryan Kasdorf (see overall state top 25 ratings).

Preseason All-CIFSS S.F.-S.C. Valley FB Team

September 6, 2008 5:49 PM

By Ronnie Flores, Senior Editor

Note: FAB 50 ranked Crespi of Encino places five players on this year's All San Fernando-San Clarita Valley team while Foothill League contender Saugus places four returning standouts. This team includes some players from schools in the southwest portion of Ventura County, not including schools in the cities of Oxnard or Ventura. Next up within the CIF Southern Section is the Inland Empire region.

All-CIF Southern Section: San Fernando Valley/Santa Clarita Valley/High Desert

Offense

WR -- Ronald McCrory (Chaminade, West Hills) 5-11, 165 Sr.
A good all-around athlete, McCrory latched on to 37 passes for 571 yards with six touchdowns last season. McCrory can do more than just catch the ball, as he also scored a rushing touchdown and gained 996 all-purpose yards for a 6-4 club. McCrory, who already holds an offer from Wyoming, averaged 26.6 yards on kickoff returns and also collected ten solo tackles as a defensive back.

WR -- Kevin Cummings (Crespi, Encino) 6-2, 165 Sr.
Playing alongside a plethora of talented skill position players last season, Cummings wasn't a well-known commodity to prep fans in the Celts' run to the CIF Southern Section Pac-5 finals. This year, however, expect the speedy Cummings to be one of the best wide outs in the region. He caught 12 passes as a junior, but expect Cummings to triple those numbers if his performance at last spring's Stanford Nike Camp is any indication. Cummings not only has 10.9 100-meter speed, he also runs good routes and his ability to change direction makes him quite dangerous.

TE -- Michael Cooper (Royal, Simi Valley) 6-3, 225 Sr.
Cooper is a strong target that hopes to help Royal rebound from a 3-7 season. He caught 15 passes for nearly 200 yards with two going for scores as a unior. Cooper is a three-year starter and is a solid blocker in the Highlander's running game. There is no Joseph Fauria this year in the region, but to other ends that could potentially be standouts down the line are Jon Hurt of L.A. Baptist, still only a sophomore, and Fauria's replacement at Crespi, 6-foot-5, 240-pound junior Pierce Richardson.

OT -- Justin Wells (Saugus) 6-2, 270 Sr.
The Centurions don't have many returning starters, but the ones that are back rate among the best players in the region. Wells helped open up holes for 2,000-yard back Ryan Zirbel and his pass-blocking technique is solid as well. Getting the job done up front to help protect quarterback Desi Rogdriguez will be key since Saugus was hurt by graduation on the defensive side of the ball.

OT -- Hroniss Gansu (Crespi, Encino) 6-3, 240, Jr.
Gansu is one of the three Crespi players that made the CalHiSports.com sophomore all-state team last season. With his skills on both sides of the ball, Gansu is expected to help the Celts stay in the title hunt against a challenging schedule. On the defensive line, he recorded 33 tackles and five sacks, including three against Alemany. On this team, however, he fits best at guard.

C -- Chris Anderson (Hart, Newhall) 6-4, 240 Sr.
Hart, of course, is known for producing all-CIF Southern Section quarterbacks but they usually have a lineman or two that rate among the best in the region and this year that's Anderson. His best days are ahead of him as he has the ability to add weight and improve his technique. Anderson displayed solid footwork at the L.A. Nike Football Training Camp and with a little more strength and girth would make a fine offensive guard on the next level. On this team, he fits best at center where he also has the ability to excel.

OG -- Jon Bryant (Saugus) 6-2, 250 Sr.
Bryant had an award-filled junior campaign for the Centurions, as his fine play in the trenches helped Ryan Zirbel to the best rushing and scoring performance in school history. He was named all-area team by the L.A. Daily and also named second team all-state underclass. Bryant is slightly undersized for the next level, but there is no doubt he gets the job done on this level and is one of the best players in the region.

OT -- Kevin Graf (Agoura, Agoura Hills) 6-6, 305 Sr.
A repeat selection on this team, Graf is a four-year prep standout on his way to USC. At last spring's L.A. Nike Camp, Graf showed everyone in attendance why he was of the first players the Trojans offered in the Class of 2009 as he took home lineman MVP honors. The son of former San Fernando High standout Alan Graf, he was selected first team all-area by the L.A. Daily News, Ventura County Star and first team all-state underclass. He could be the best offensive line prospect on the West Coast.

RB -- Ryan Zirbel (Saugus) 5-8, 180 Sr.
Another repeat selection, Zirbel is likely the best running back in school history and big numbers this year could land him in the state record book. He followed up as 1,231-yard, 17-touchdown sophomore season by rushing for 2,281 yards and 36 touchdowns. He added two more scores on kickoff returns of 92 and 90 yards in leading the Centurions to the CIFSS Northern Division semifinals. The stocky and durable back enters his senior campaign with 55 touchdowns and 3,512 yards, but he'll be a marked man so its up to other players to step up if Saugus is to make another deep playoff run.

RB -- Dietrich Riley (St. Francis, La Canada) 6-0, 175 Jr.
Riley has shined on the football field while overcoming some tough circumstances off it. He can run, catch and is a hard-hitter from his safety position despite a relatively thin frame. As a back, he rushed for 840 yards on 124 carries while scoring five touchdowns. He also caught 12 passes for 132 yards and added 48 tackles, two sacks and a pick from his spot in the defensive secondary. In a game we caught last year against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, he was definitely one of the best players on the field.

QB -- Bryan Bennett (Crespi, Encino) 6-2, 170 Jr.
It looked like disaster struck the Celts' football team last season when UCLA-bound QB Kevin Prince was lost for the year early in their first game against Birmingham that played a huge role in the selection of the Div. I CIF Championship Bowl Game. What came out of that situation was the revelation that Bennett was a talented young quarterback that could get the job done. He eventually led Crespi to the CIFSS Pac-Five championship game while completing over 52 percent of his passes for 2,133 yards and 17 touchdowns. He again has plenty of talent to work with and with a full season under his belt, expect a higher completion percentage even though he may toss more passes this season.

K -- Matt Goudis (Chaminade, West Hills) 5-11, 150 Soph.
Goudis was one of the best freshman players in the CIF Southern Section last season, as he made seven of 10 field goals, including a 42-yarder. He also nailed 35 PATs and should develop more range as he gets bigger and stronger.

Defense

DE -- Todd Davis (Paraclete, Lancaster) 6-2, 225 Jr.

A strong and athletic player for the Spirits, Davis had a breakout sophomore season for a club that advanced to the CIFSS Mid-Valley Division semifinals. Davis, who can squat over 550 pounds, racked up 31 tackles, 52 assists and 11 sacks. Opponents lost a total of 72 yards on those sacks.

DT -- Corey Sandoval (Moorpark) 6-1, 240 Sr.
The Musketeers hope to make the post-season once again behind a strong defense that returns nine starters. Sandoval stands out among the veterans and anchors a line that helped Moorpark only give up more than 20 points once last season. He is a returning all-Maramonte League pick and a player that could be a difference maker in the race for the league crown.

DT -- Rian Younker (St. Francis, La Canada) 5-11, 245 Sr.
Last year the top defensive lineman in the Mission League was the Golden Knights' Alex Reitnouer and Younker has the ability to be that same player this season. As a junior, Younker collected 28 solo tackles, 22 assists and two sacks for a 4-6 club. More importantly that stats and awards, this returning all-Mission League pick hopes to lead the Pasadena Star News' preseason No.1 team to a deep run in the CIFSS Western Division playoffs.

DE -- Weston Yahn (Camarillo) 6-4, 225 Sr.
We put Yahn opposite Davis as the other rush end that will wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks. As a junior, he was in on nine sacks and 59 tackles, including 36 solo. The returning all-league selection is one of the leaders of a talented defense that is expected to keep Camarillo in contention for the Pacific League title as the Scorpions break in host of new offensive players.

LB -- Khalil Bass (Crespi, Encino) 6-1, 220 Sr.
The Celts recently lost linebacker Lucky Radley but Bass is already making an impact after transferring over from Village Christian in nearby Sun Valley. In Crespi's opener against Northridge of Layton, Utah, Bass helped the Celts clinch the game when he returned a punt 38 yards for a score. Last year for Village Christian, Bass collected 59 sacks, including 23 solo, and also averaged 7.7 yards a carry as a running back. He gained 534 yards rushing and caught 10 passes good for an additional 121 yards. He was a sleeper D1 prospect at his old school, but his standout summer and impact at his new school has changed all that.

LB -- Kyle Swanson (Paraclete, Lancaster) 6-0, 190 Sr.
Davis and Swanson lead a solid defensive unit that should nicely compliment a veteran offense that returns nine starters. Although slightly undersized for the next level, Swanson is simply a tackling machine for the Spirits. The all-league selection was in on 140 stops as a junior and has recorded 270 tackles over the past two seasons. Swanson and the rest of the defense should thrive with so many veterans around on both sides of the ball, but there is also some added pressure to get the job done because the Spirits are a heavy favorite to win the Olympic League and advance to the CIFSS Mid-Valley title game.

LB -- Jordan Barrett (Notre Dame, Sherman Oaks) 6-3, 230, Sr.
A repeat selection on this team, Barrett had a fine junior season playing alongside all-region LB Anthony McDonald. He made last year's team as a multi-purpose player with the ability to also line up at tight end, but defense is where he'll likely spend his Saturdays after racking up 100 tackles, including 13 for loss, to go along with two interceptions in 2007.  McDonald and teammate Dayne Crist, a quarterback, now play for the University of Notre Dame and the Fightin' Irish were the first college program to offer Barrett. You can bet they won't be the last.

LB -- Justin Cudworth (Agoura, Agoura Hills) 5-10, 194 Sr.
Cudworth worked hard in the off-season to gain recognition after playing for a Calabasas team that won only one game and snapped a 44-game losing streak. He finished with the second highest SPARQ Rating* at the Ventura County Nike SPARQ Combine last spring behind only Santa Clara of Oxnard All-American Cierre Wood. His 95.85 score included the best 20-yard shuttle time. Cudworth was also the Coyotes' leading tackler and an all-Marmonte League selection as a junior. He'll now be playing alongside a group of players that can blend in his talents, instead of relying on them to even be competitive, and that could make him a better player.

DB -- Malcolm Marable (Alemany, Mission Hills) 5-9, 175 Jr.
He almost made this team last year as an incoming sophomore after making a splash on the Warriors' varsity as a freshman. Already a two-time all-Mission League pick, Marable could be in store for a huge junior season after sharing time at running back with Anthony Bray, who is no longer enrolled at the school. Marable gained 620 yards rushing, 300 yards receiving and scored seven touchdowns, but he might be an even better defensive back prospect so that's where he's placed on this team.

DB -- Justin Liley (Westlake, Westlake Village) 6-0, 190 Sr.
A cinch pick on this team after being named to the second team all-state underclass squad last season, Liley is a great all-around talent that can make an impact in all three areas of the game. On special teams, he's a dangerous kick return man and he scored two offensive touchdowns as a running back last season. On defense is where he really earns he keep, as he was credited with 97 tackles, including 64 solos, a sack, three pass deflections and one interception. He also made the L.A. Daily News and Ventura County Star honor squads.

DB -- Travis Sproat (Grace Brethren, Simi Valley) 5-8, 170 Sr.
One of the better small-school standouts in the CIF Southern Section, Sproat uses his speed and quickness to get the job done on both sides of the ball for the Lancers. As a receiver, he hauled in 41 catches for 654 yards with 11 of them counting as six points. He also has the ability to run the ball and, of course, blanket opposing wideouts. On defense, he contributed 16 solo tackles and two interceptions.
P -- Tim Porter (Highland, Palmdale) 6-2, 170 Sr.
Boomed 39 punts for 1,551 yards, good for a 39.77 per punt average. He not only has a strong leg, but can deliver the coffin corner kick as well as 17 of those punts landed inside the 20-yard line. He can also handle kicking duties as well, as he nailed 10 of 14 field goals for the Bulldogs.

Multi-Purpose

WR/RB/LB -- Demitri Diamond (Hart, Newhall) 6-2, 200, Sr.
Demitri was used mainly as a slotback in the Indians' offense last season, but he's going to make the switch to tailback in replace of graduated all-stater Delano Howell. In limited carries, Diamond scored two rushing touchdowns and added seven scores on receptions. He finished his junior season with 21 catches for 494 yards. On defense, Diamond uses his solid size and quickness at linebacker, where he racked up 21 solo tackles, 34 assists, a sack and two interceptions. This season, he's not only expected to replace Howell at running back, but also be the go-to player when Hart needs a first down or touchdown.

WR/DB -- Blake Stanton (Crespi, Encino) 6-1, 190 Jr.
Stanton is yet another spectacular young player for Crespi head coach Jeremiah Ross, who must replace seven players that moved on to the Div. I college ranks. As a sophomore, Stanton played a key role on both sides of the ball for a team that advanced to the CIFSS Pac-5 title game. As a receiver, he hauled in 32 catches for 492 yards (15.4 avg.) with three of them going for scores. He can also line up at corner and is a good enough athlete to play basketball on the next level if he decided to concentrate on that sport.

RB/DB -- Chris Brown (Newbury Park) 6-1, 185 Sr.

Newbury Park has long been a pass-happy program, but it's no coincidence they won the program's first Marmonte League title since 1998 by ultilizing the talents of Brown. He lugged the leather 318 times for 1,904 yards and hit pay dirt 22 times. He added 33 receptions for 356 yards with two more scores. The league MVP can also play in the secondary but more importantly helps Newbuty Park win games. For his junior efforts, he was named second team all-area by the L.A. Daily News, all-county by the Ventury County Star and second team all-state underclass.

QB/RB -- Desi Rodriguez (Saugus) 5-11, 190 Sr.
A true dual threat from the quarterback spot, Rodriguez is a sparkplug for a fine Saugus offense that is looking to put up a plethora of points to help out its green defense. As a junior playing alongside fellow preseason all-region pick Ryan Zirbel, Rodriguez gained 1,256 yards on 159 carries, averaging nearly eight yards a pop while scoring 12 touchdowns. He added another 12 touchdowns passing while completing 54 percent of his passes good for 986 yards. The first team all-Foothill League choice is being recruited as an athlete and has already been offered by Army.

WR/S -- Zach Tartabull (Valencia) 6-0, 185 Jr.
Tartabull excels on the gridiron and on the track and with his last name one would figure he also excels on the baseball diamond. Yes, he is the son of former MLB outfielder Danny Tartabull, but he doesn't enjoy hardball very much. Luckily for Valencia head coach Larry Muir, he prefers football and returns as a standout in the Vikings' secondary. Over the summer, he took on all comers as a wideout during passing league competition and usually came up with the ball on the outside. In one competitive tournament, he used his sure hands and precision route running to catch nine TD passes in six games. When it counted last fall, he caught 40 passes for 432 yards and three scores.

RB/LB -- Dominique Barnes (Burroughs, Burbank) 5-9, 190 Sr.
One of the best players in the Pacific League, Barnes averaged over eight yards per carry and scored 12 touchdowns for the Indians. He finished with 1,077 yards on 131 carries and can also plug holes as a linebacker. With 12 returning starters, including six besides Barnes of the offensive side of the ball, Burroughs has high hopes of a league crown and deep playoff run in 2008.
