Here's our initial list of those who are on our board to be considered for the 2009 All-State Boys Basketball teams. Check out how you can improve, enhance and contribute to finalizing this list over the next week.

This is the first step in the selection process for the 2009 all-state boys basketball teams, which we've been producing for more than 30 years.

This list is not intended to be final in any way. It is posted so that coaches, parents and users can submit additions, corrections and make comments (anonymously of course) about which players should be selected when everything is added up.

Please don't wait until after all of the teams are announced to complain about a selection. Nominations are always welcome.

You can send a nomination with each athlete's height, position, year in school, significant statistics. Comparing a player not on the board yet to one who already is can be very important toward eventual selection. Limit each nomination to one page please. Also, be aware that not all freshmen, sophomores or juniors we are considering for all-state underclass may be on this list. We also normally wind up choosing players who aren't on this list for some of the smaller CIF enrollment divisions as well. These players will come to light when all of the various major newspaper-based honor squads are released.

The format we use is to pick a 10-player overall all-state first team, a 10-player overall all-state second team and a 10-player overall all-state third team. Each of the first 30 players are written up. There
also are 10 players each for first team all-state and second team all-state for Division I, Division II, Division III, Division IV, Division V plus first team all-state honors for juniors (20), sophomores (15) and freshmen (10).

Each team must include at least two interior players and two guards but other than that the goal is to pick the 10 best players regardless of position.

Don't assume we know all there is to know about a player on the list, either. Send us info to make sure all pertinent information is turned in and placed into our files.
