BASEBALL

Pedro Adalpe (Montclair Prep, Van Nuys): In an 18-4 win over Cornerstone Christian of Texas, Adalpe went 3-for-3 with two homers six RBIs.

Matt Brezinski & Erik Andrews (Sacred Heart Prep, Atherton): Senior infielder Brezinski had two home runs, a double and a triple with six RBIs in the Gators 9-5 win over Menlo-Atherton. He also hit his fifth homer and had two more RBIs in a 15-4 victory over Silver Creek of San Jose to give him a CCS leading 36 RBIs on the season. Andrews stroked his sixth home run in the Silver Creek victory.

Angelo Cianfranco (Westview, San Diego): Despite the 6-foot-1 senior's two home runs and three RBI, the Wolverines dropped a tight 7-6 Valley League game to Valley Center.

Joe Connor & Dillon Dooney (Poway): Went 3-for-3 with his third home run of the season, driving in three in the second game after going 1-3 in the opener of a doubleheader as the Titans stunned Vista, 6-5 and 18-2 in the three-game showdown of Palomar League powers. Dooney, a junior, went 5-for-9 with a homer, three doubles and three runs scored in the three-game series.

Bryan Crabb (Coronado): Sent 12 batters back to the bench with strikeouts in leading the Islanders to a key 2-1 Western League win over La Jolla. Keith Englehart drove in both runs for Coronado.

Andres Enriquez (San Ysidro, Chula Vista): Blasted home runs in the second and fourth but both were solo shots and the only runs scored in a 12-2 loss to Montgomery of Chula Vista.

Jamie Fanti (Carlmont, Belmont): The junior outfielder had three home runs in four games last week as his team went 2-2. Only one round-tripper was in a victory, 12-2 over Sequoia of Redwood City. Fanti now has seven homers this season and is batting .342 with seven doubles and 29 RBIs.

Phil Ferragamo (Canyon, Anaheim): The 6-foot-7, 230-pound junior allowed just one run on five hits with six strikeouts to lead the Comanches to a 6-1 win over El Dorado of Placentia.

Dylan Floro (Buhach Colony, Atwater): In a battle for first place in the Central California Conference against Merced, he allowed just two hits and struck out 11 and provided the game's lone run with a solo homer in the sixth inning of the Thunder's 1-0 victory.

Nolan Gannon (Santa Fe Christian, Solana Beach):
The 6-foot-4 freshman dominated Tri-City Christian (Escondido) by tossing a shutout, allowing two hits and collecting 13 Ks in an 8-0 win. He also went 2-for-3, scoring three times and driving in a run.

Jake Garvey (La Habra): Garvey hurled a 3-hit shutout to lead the Highlanders to a 4-0 win over Sonora (La Habra), moving his season record to a perfect 5-0 and allowing La Habra to assume sole possession of second place in the Freeway League.

Jordan Geiger (Garden Grove): Hurled a two-hitter in handing La Quinta (Westminster) its first Garden Grove League loss of the season, 11-2.

Martin Gomez (Central Valley, Ceres): Was two outs away from a no-hitter before a slowly hit ball found its way for an infield single to break the bid up in the Hawks' 4-0 win over Weston Ranch. Besides allowing just the one hit, he struck out 15, including 10 in a row at one point.

Ben Griset (Gustine): Joins the likes of former New York Yankees pitcher Andy Hawkins as pitchers to throw a no-hitter and still lose the game. Gustine lost to Patterson by a 2-0 final score and pretty much everything that's possible to help the offense besides a hit lead to the two runs as Patterson took advantage of walks, hit by pitches, errors, and pass balls to find a way to win.

Mitch Haniger (Mitty, San Jose): The CCS home run leader hit his ninth and 10th round-trippers of the season this past week, but both were in losing efforts to cross-town WCAL rival Bellarmine and Valley Christian.

Bryce Hara (Northwood, Irvine):
Clubbed a two-run, walk-off home run to stun El Toro (Lake Forest), 3-2, handing the Chargers their first Sea View League loss of the year.

Ryan Harris (Beckmam, Irvine): Overcame a slow start to win his seventh game without a loss as the Patriots rallied to down Corona del Mar, 6-4. Down 3-1, Beckman scored five runs in the fifth and Harris fanned three of the final five batters to secure the win.

Michael Hartman (Gilroy): Got busy in a hurry and finished off a perfecto in a mercy-shortened five-inning 13-0 victory that saw the junior throw only 34 pitches to the batters he faced. Oddly, he only had two strikeouts but induced 13 grounders and didn't allow a ball out of the infield.

Landon Hunt (Moorpark): In a 3-2 win over Newbury Park, Hunt struck out six, collected two hits and drove in one.

Jake Jelmini (Mira Costa, Manhattan Beach): The Mustangs won the game 14-0 over Leuzinger of Lawndale and Jelmini contributed big time. He had a three run dinger and drove in five.

Christian Jones (Monte Vista, Danville):
With 40 major league scouts with radar guns in the stands at Monte Vista to see the Oregon-bound Jones battle against UCLA-bound Scott Griggs of cross-town San Ramon Valley, it was the hometown hurler who got the best of the pitcher's duel. Jones went the distance, allowing six hits and giving up one run in the second inning while striking out 12.

Andrew Katz (Patrick Henry, San Diego): The 6-foot junior hit for the cycle as the Patriots unloaded on Scripps Ranch (San Diego), 15-2, with a 15-hit attack.

Kevin Lavarta (Montgomery, Santa Rosa):
The senior lefty had a no-hitter through six innings and finished with a two-hitter with seven strikeouts in a 4-2 Vikings victory over visiting Rancho Cotate of Rohnert Park.

Scott Livergood (North, Torrance): In a 6-3 win over Centennial of Compton, Livergood threw a four hitter and fanned 16.

Chris Ludwig (Bishop's, La Jolla): Teed off for a home run and a triple, driving in four runs and scoring a like number as the Knights raced past High Tech (Chula Vista), 13-2.

Chris Mariscal (Clovis North, Clovis): One of the top players from Div. III state-ranked team hit a grand slam, a triple and drove in five in a 13-0 triumph over Sanger. Mariscal also scored three runs and pitched a two-hitter in the County/Metro League contest.

Tyler Matzek (Capistrano Valley, Mission Viejo):
It was a good thing Matzek was on top of his game as the ESPN RISE Magazine cover subject hurled a two-hitter in a 1-0 victory over powerful Dana Hills (Dana Point) in a South Coast League showdown.

Conor Meredith (Grossmont): Combined with Aaron Griffin to no-hit Mission Bay after blasting a two-run homer to lead the Foothillers to an 11-0 win, splitting the doubleheader. Mission Bay prevailed, 4-3, in the opener.

Trevor Miller (Bret Harte, Angels Camp): Tossed a five-inning no-hitter at Linden as he walked just two and struck out 10 as the Bullfrogs picked up a 13-0 win over the Lions.

Alex Mitchell (Bakersfield): Of course, Alex's homers are drilled and he came up with two of them in a 15-1 romp last week over Highland of Bakersfield. One of those was a grand slam and for the game Mitchell had seven RBI.

Chris Neal (Liberty, Bakersfield):
Standout for the Patriots collected four hits and drove in seven runs in a 17-4 triumph over Garces of Bakersfield in a Southeast Yosemite League game.

Henry Owens (Edison, Huntington Beach): The Chargers' sophomore baffled Fountain Valley by not allowing a hit as Edison blanked the Barons, 7-0.

Alex Pino (River Valley, Yuba City): Normally a two-hit shutout is an outing that doesn't get you listed unless you strike out a ton of batters, but circumstances made this a little more impressive. At the plate in the second inning he was hit by a fastball in the face and after changing out of his bloody jersey went right back on the mound and led the way in the 5-0 victory over Pioneer.

Cody Poteet (Scripps Ranch, San Diego): While he may only be 14 years old, Poteet certainly can play the game as the freshman scattered five hits in a 6-2 win over Christian (El Cajon). Poteet is batting .400 on the season and against Christian he popped a two-run homer.

Blake Proctor (Redwood, Visalia): Smacked his 11th home run of the season and went 4-for-5 at the plate, to go along with six RBI, in a 15-7 win by the Rangers over Hanford. As a team, Redwood collected five homers in the West Yosemite League game.

Jake Read (Helix, La Mesa): Only a sophomore, the 6-footer allowed just three hits while fanning 11 in a 6-0 shutout of Mount Miguel (Spring Valley) in Grossmont South League play.

Taylor Richardson (Tustin): Richardson's fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth, lifted the Tillers past Villa Park, 7-6, in a Sea View League game.

Alan Schmutzter (Elsinore):
He had three doubles in an 11-4 win over Hemet.

Atlee Schwab (Palos Verdes, Palos Verdes Estates):

Andrew Susac (Jesuit, Carmichael):
Homered twice at Banner Island Ballpark, home of the Stockton Ports, to lead the Marauders over Lincoln of Stockton by a 14-4 score.

Michael Theofanopoulos (Foothill, Pleasanton): With CalHiSports.com in the press box at Monte Vista, this junior hurler silenced the home crowd and the bats of the Mustangs after going six innings and giving up only two hits with six strikeouts in a 2-1 Falcons upset victory.

Casey Thompson (Westmont, Campbell):
This sophomore outfielder reached base all four at-bats, going 3-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored in a 13-3 victory over Monta Vista of Cupertino.

Zack Turner (Serra, San Mateo):
The senior backstop earned the San Francisco Chronicle Boys Athlete of the Week for his part in the Padres 6-5 come-from-behind victory over St. Francis by belting two home runs. First, he made it 1-0 in the first inning and then tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh with his second solo shot of the game.

JD Voechting (Chaparral, Temecula):
The hurler tossed a complete game and struck out 13 in an 8-4 win over Vista Murrieta.

SOFTBALL

Albanese was also 3-for-4 with an RBI at the plate. With the win and a 7-0 one hit shutout when she fanned 21 the following day against Notre Dame (San Jose), the No. 1 rated Division V team in the state remained perfect at 12-0 this season.
