Rocklin now rules the roost in D2 North but has to face previous No. 1 Del Oro on Friday. Newcomers include Etiwanda, Colton, Lincoln of Stockton and Paraclete of Lancaster. Still No. 1 are Oceanside, Grant of Sacramento, Crenshaw of Los Angeles, Oaks Christian, St. Mary's of Stockton, Parker of San Diego and Modesto Christian. 19. (NR) Rancho Cucamonga 7-1 def. Alta Loma 34-14
20. (NR) Colton 7-1 def. Cajon (San Bernardino) 38-9
On the bubble: Chaparral (Temecula) 5-3, Escondido 6-1-1, Hart (Newhall) 5-3, Los Alamitos 6-2, Newbury Park 6-2, Newport Harbor (Newport Beach) 4-4, Roosevelt (Corona) 6-2, Upland 7-1, Warren (Downey) 7-1.
Breakdown: No. 3 Lakewood finds itself in the perfect position as No. 1 Oceanside and No. 2 Edison (Huntington Beach) battle a couple of unbeaten teams this week. The Lancers are taking the week off while Oceanside faces 8-0 but virtually untested Valley Center in the San Diego Section while Edison meets No. 11 Fountain Valley, which hopped over Bullard of Fresno after downing always tough Newport Harbor of Newport Beach. Norco, which has worked its way to No. 6 in Division II with seven straight wins after a three-point loss to Crenshaw, will try to grab the Big VIII title from Centennial of Corona. While the top 10 this week remained unchanged, the bottom 10 only has one team where it was a week ago – Dana Hills of Dana Point in No. 13. Newcomers are all from the Inland Empire as Etiwanda switches places at No. 17 with Upland after edging the Highlanders, 18-16; Rancho Cucamonga edges back into the top 20 at No. 19 with a chance to prove it really belongs against Upland this week; and Colton, losers only to No. 10 Vista Murrieta in the season-opener, jumps into the top 20 at No. 20.
Division I North
1. (1) Grant (Sacramento) 8-0 Idle
2. (2) De La Salle (Concord) 6-2 def. Livermore 56-0
3. (3) Amador Valley (Pleasanton) 7-1 def. San Ramon Valley 35-16
4. (4) Bellarmine Prep (San Jose) 6-1-1 def. Sacred Heart Cathedral 54-20
5. (6) Berkeley 9-0 def. Hercules 62-6
6. (5) Granite Bay 6-2 def. Roseville 70-28
7. (7) Nevada Union (Grass Valley) 7-1 def. Laguna Creek 55-20
8. (9) Serra (San Mateo) 5-3 def. Riordan (SF) 35-13
9. (8) Tracy 8-0 def. Bear Creek (Stockton) 62-21
10. (10) Deer Valley (Antioch) 8-0 def. Liberty (Brentwood) 69-6
11. (11) San Benito (Hollister) 8-0 def. Salinas 29-0
12. (12) Vacaville 7-1 def. Vintage (Napa) 56-7
13. (NR) Lincoln (Stockton) 6-2 def. Lodi 34-14
14. (15) California (San Ramon) def. Foothill (Pleasanton) 45-24
15. (14) Folsom 7-1 def. Florin (Sacramento) 49-7
On the bubble: Fairfield 6-2, Foothill (Pleasanton) 5-3, Heritage (Brentwood) 6-2, Milpitas 6-2, Monte Vista (Danville) 5-3, Monterey Trail (Elk Grove) 6-2, Palo Alto 6-1-1, Pittsburg 4-4, Pleasant Grove (Elk Grove) 6-2, San Ramon Valley (Danville) 5-3, Sheldon (Sacramento) 6-2.
Breakdown: It's difficult to move up very much when the top 12 teams either won or, in Sacramento Grant's case, took the week off, giving the rest of the Metropolitan League teams a break. Bellarmine Prep was impressive against Sacred Heart Cathedral but now Division II St. Francis of Mountain View, losers only to Archbishop Mitty, is up next. Speaking of Mitty, that's the team Serra of San Mateo squares off against this week. The only newcomer is Lincoln of Stockton, losers only to D3 North No. 1 St. Mary's and to unbeaten Tracy. The Trojans also still have a head-to-head to win against Pleasant Grove of Elk Grove, which limited Monterey Trail's top 15 stay to just one week with a 28-21 win. Now the Eagles play Folsom, which lost its only game in overtime to Monterey Trail. The final two games of the season are pivotal to most of these teams as clubs position themselves for section playoff seeding purposes.
Division II South

13. (12) Charter Oak (Covina) 8-1 def. Wilson (Hacienda Heights) 42-0
14. (14) St. Francis (La Canada) 7-1 def. St. Paul (Santa Fe Springs) 34-7
15. (15) Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 4-4 def. JSerra 45-7
On the bubble: Alemany (Mission Hills) 5-3, Cathedral (Los Angeles) 8-0, Chaminade (West Hills) 5-3, Crespi (Encino) 4-4, Culver City 7-1, Dorsey (L.A.) 7-1, Frontier (Bakersfield) 8-0, Heritage (Menifee) 5-3, Kingsburg 8-0, Mira Costa (Manhattan Beach) 6-2, Monrovia 8-0, San Jacinto 6-2, St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 4-4, Valhalla (El Cajon) 6-2, Valley Center 8-0.
Breakdown: It's that time of year. There are big games and then there are huge games, such as the Servite-Lutheran collision Friday night at Cerritos College. To the winner will go the Trinity League title-one of the most respected crowns in the state. For Servite, it's just another in a season-long series of tough opponents. The easiest game of the season for the Friars could well be their first-round playoff contest. Although Lutheran started 2-3, the Lancers have regrouped nicely. Crenshaw has outscored its last three opponents 204-21 but could get a test this week when the Cougars face a Dorsey club whose only loss was a seven-pointer to well-respected Mira Mesa in San Diego. There also are now four bubble teams with perfect 8-0 records-Frontier of Bakersfield, Kingsburg, Monrovia and Valley Center.
Division II North
1. (3) Rocklin 8-0 def. Oakmont (Roseville) 46-7
2. (4) Archbishop Mitty (SJ) 7-0-1 def. St. Francis (Mountain View) 28-14
3. (2) St. Francis (Mountain View) 6-2 lost to Archbishop Mitty (SJ) 28-14
4. (1) Del Oro (Loomis) 7-1 lost to Woodcreek (Roseville) 16-9
5. (6) Oakdale 8-0 def. Manteca 35-23
6. (7) Inderkum (Sacramento) 8-0 def. Yuba City 42-14
7. (8) Enterprise (Redding) 9-0 def. Chico 48-14
8. (10) Encinal (Alameda) 7-1 def. St. Patrick/St. Vincent (Vallejo) 55-19
9. (NR) Lincoln 8-0 def. Placer (Auburn) 13-6
10. (NR) Paradise 8-1 def. Shasta (Redding) 30-16
On the bubble: Casa Roble (Orangevale) 5-3, Bella Vista (Fair Oaks) 7-1, Del Campo (Fair Oaks) 7-1, Los Gatos 6-2, Manteca 5-3, Novato 6-3, Petaluma 8-0, Placer (Auburn) 7-1, Shasta (Redding) 6-3, Sierra (Manteca) 7-1, Sonora 7-1, Whitney (Rocklin) 6-2.
Breakdown: It happens enough that coaches at all levels, from Pop Warner to Pro, warn their players about sneaking a peek a week ahead. Whether or not that's what happened to Del Oro of Loomis in its 16-9 loss to Woodcreek, the fact remains the game this week against Rocklin for the Sierra Foothill League lead is no longer a battle of unbeatens. And Del Oro is no longer atop the D2 North bowl ratings. That now belongs to Rocklin, which jumped from third to first, barely edging Archbishop Mitty of San Jose, which scored an impressive 28-14 West Catholic League win over previous No. 2 St. Francis of Mountain View. Mitty gets Serra of San Mateo this week and if the Monarchs and Bellarmine Prep win out, those two will tie for the league title just as they tied on the field, although Mitty would get the higher playoff seed for winning a tiebreaker. Rockin being on the top also is the same as Del Oro in that both will probably have to beat either Grant of Sacramento or St. Mary's of Stockton to become bowl eligible. And if the Sac-Joaquin Section seeds its playoffs correctly, Rocklin or Del Oro might have to beat both of those teams to win a section crown. In other moves, Enterprise of Redding goes up one and will finish its regular season against new No. 10 Paradise to decide the Northern Section's Eastern League title. Petaluma is the one pounding on the door.
Division III South
1. (1) Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 8-0 def. Oak Park 59-0
2. (2) Serra (Gardena) 8-0 def. St. Bernard (Playa del Rey) 63-13
3. (3) St. Bonaventure (Ventura) 7-1 def. Ventura 35-7
4. (4) St. Joseph (Santa Maria) 8-0 def. Morro Bay 34-14
5. (7) Harvard-Westlake (N. Hollywood) 5-2 def. Verbum Dei (L.A.) 38-0
6. (6) JSerra (SJ Capistrano) 6-2 lost to Lutheran (Orange) 23-14
7. (9) Templeton 6-2 def. Cabrillo (Lompoc) 41-14
8. (5) Taft 6-2 lost to Tehachapi 16-7
9. (NR) Paraclete (Lancaster) 6-3 def. Village Christian (Sun Valley) 35-0
10. (10) Bishop's (La Jolla) 6-2 def. Horizon (San Diego) 53-34
On the bubble: Chowchilla 4-4, Corcoran 6-2, Fowler 6-2, Liberty (Madera) 4-4, Morro Bay 4-4, Notre Dame (Riv.) 6-2, San Marino 6-2, Sierra (Tollhouse) 5-3, Village Christian (Sun Valley) 6-2, Whittier Christian (La Habra) 5-3.
Breakdown: The top four here are peerless, but after that Harvard-Westlake appears to be the next best with losses only to No. 2 Serra and Division II Chaminade. That said, the Wolverines have a good chance to either prove once again they belong or that unbeaten Cathedral of Los Angeles isn't just an aberration (the Phantoms-get it?). Seriously, looking at the common league opponent, St. Bernard of Playa del Rey, there is very little difference. Paraclete of Lancaster, which has bounced in and out of the Top 10, is back in at No. 10 after a very impressive 35-0 victory over bubble team Village Christian of Sun Valley. Teams on the bubble should take heart in that Bishop's of La Jolla must finish out against small school powers Christian (El Cajon) and Santa Fe Christian (Solana Beach).
Division III North
1. (1) St. Mary's (Stockton) 8-0 def. McNair 66-0
2. (2) Palma (Salinas) 6-1-1 def. Gilroy 35-7
3. (3) Central Catholic (Modesto) 7-1 def. Orestimba 60-6
4. (4) Marin Catholic (Kentfield) 6-1 def. Drake (San Anselmo) 42-7
5. (5) Escalon 8-0 def. Riverbank 56-0
6. (6) Valley Christian (San Jose) 5-3 def. St. Ignatius (S.F.) 17-13
7. (7) Seaside 6-1-1 def. Monte Vista Chr. (Watsonville) 10-0
8. (8) Hilmar 7-1 def. Gustine 49-20
9. (9) Sutter 7-2 def. Las Plumas (Oroville) 42-0
10. (10) Wheatland 8-1 def. Gridley 56-13
On the bubble: Argonaut (Jackson) 5-3, Cardinal Newman (Santa Rosa) 4-4, Cloverdale 7-1, Colfax 6-2, Fortuna 6-2, Healdsburg 6-2, Middletown 7-1, Ripon 6-2, Sacred Heart Prep (Atherton) 6-2, Salesian (Richmond) 7-1, Scotts Valley 4-2-2, St. Mary's (Berkeley) 6-2.
Breakdown: By averaging better than 70 points (213) in the last three games, St. Mary's of Stockton is setting the pace for this division where lopsided scores are the norm. That said, Palma of Salinas, which has not lost since the season-opener, faces another major test when it meets San Benito of Hollister in a battle of Tri-County unbeatens Friday night at the Salinas Sports Complex. San Benito is a Division I school that plays solid defense, giving up 25 points the last two weeks after allowing just 26 in the first six weeks of the season. Although none of the bubble teams could move up since all 10 ranked teams won, there is hope for next week because No. 9 Wheatland and No. 10 Sutter square off Friday at Wheatland for the Butte View League title.
Small Schools South
1. (1) Francis Parker (San Diego) 7-1 def. Santa Fe Chr. 31-20
2. (2) St. Margaret's (San Juan Capistrano) 7-1 def. Crean Lutheran South 56-0
3. (3) Santa Fe Christian (Solana Beach) 7-1 lost to Francis Parker 31-20
4. (4) Rio Hondo Prep (Arcadia) 8-0 def. Viewpoint (Calabasas) 44-0
5. (5) Linfield Christian (Temecula) 8-0 def. Hamilton (Anza) 29-0
6. (6) La Jolla Country Day (La Jolla) 7-1 def. Tri-City Christian 44-21
7. (7) Christian (El Cajon) 5-3 Idle
8. (8) Frazier Mountain (Lebec) 7-1 def. California City 49-21
9. (9) Chadwick (PV Peninsula) 7-1 def. Poly (Pasadena) 31-19
10. (10) Aquinas (San Bernardino) 4-3 def. Arrowhead Christian 63-3
On the bubble: Arrowhead Christian (Redlands) 5-3, Bloomington Christian 5-3, Central Valley Christian (Visalia) 3-5, Kern Valley (Lake Isabella) 7-1, Santa Paula 5-3, Tri-City Christian (Escondido) 7-1.
Breakdown: Teams hoping that the Parker-SFC loser would be dropping were disappointed when the Eagles, despite suffering their first loss, played Parker every bit as tough as St. Margaret's. There was even thought of moving SFC over St. Margaret's because the Eagles have beaten three Division II and a Division I school while Sr. Margaret's hasn't played a team above Division III. Similarly, there was serious doubt about moving La Jolla Country Day up last week and there are still some questions but those will be answered in the San Diego Section Division V playoffs. LJCD's 44-21 win over previously unbeaten but untested Tri-City Christian of Escondido allowed the Torreys to hold their spot, too, so overall there was no movement at all. Parker, which finishes up with a Friday the 13th game against Christian on the road, is now clearly the huge favorite to represent the South in the Small School Bowl championship but must get past Division I San Diego in a non-league game this week. While the Cavers are nothing like they used to be, give Parker credit for playing up.
Small Schools North
1. (1) Modesto Christian 8-0 def. Hughson 65-0
2. (2) Ferndale 8-0 Idle
3. (3) Modoc (Alturas) 8-0 def. Chester 68-8
4. (4) Portola 9-0 def. Quincy 39-6
5. (5) St. Francis (Watsonville) 5-2-1 tied Scotts Valley 21-21
6. (6) Bradshaw Christian (Sacramento) 7-1 def. Lathrop 49-12
7. (7) Fall River (McArthur) 7-2 def. Etna 54-8
8. (8) Capital Christian (Sac.) 5-3 def. Marysville 43-19
9. (9) Hamilton (Hamilton City) 7-2 def. Williams 42-12
10. (10) Hoopa Valley (Hoopa) 7-1 def. St. Bernard's (Eureka) 6-0 OT
On the bubble: Burney 6-3, Colusa 6-3, East Nicolas (Nicolas) 6-3, Quincy 6-3, St. Bernard's (Eureka) 3-5, St. Vincent (Petaluma) 6-2, Vacaville Christian 5-2, Valley Christian (Dublin) 4-4.
Breakdown: There was no movement here since the only blemish on these team's records was a 21-21 tie by St. Francis of Watsonville but that was against Division III bubble team Scotts Valley. No. 1 Modesto Christian puts its unbeaten record on the line against Division III No.5 Escalon Friday in a battle of unbeatens at Modesto Christian in a Trans Valley League showdown. A win by the Crusaders would clinch a league title but not so if Escalon prevails since it still has 6-2 Ripon the last week of the season. Last year, Escalon won at home over the Crusaders 40-21. Even if MC loses again, it still might take a playoff loss for the team to drop from the No. 1 spot in this division. The Northern Section, meanwhile, wraps up the regular season this weekend but front-running Portola has already clinched the league title and is looking to finish unbeaten when it plays Colusa.
