5. (6) Redlands East Valley (Redlands) 7-0 def. Rialto 49-6

8. (9) Valencia 7-0 def. Golden Valley 49-0
9. (10) Centennial (Corona) 7-1 def. J.W. North (Riverside) 52-20
10. (14) Vista Murrieta (Murrieta) 7-0 def. Chaparral 32-13
11. (11) Bullard (Fresno) 7-0 def. Reedley 52-42
12. (12) Fountain Valley 7-0 def. Esperanza (Anaheim) 31-14
13. (16) Dana Hills (Dana Point) 6-1 def. San Clemente 38-14
14. (17) Escondido 6-0-1 def. Fallbrook 30-10
15. (18) Carson 4-2 def. Gardena 48-18
16. (19) Taft (Woodland Hills) 3-3 def. Chatsworth 53-6
17. (NR) Upland 7-0 def. Alta Loma 42-7
18. (20) El Camino Real (Woodland Hills) 7-0 def. Granada Hills, 59-10
19. (NR) Rancho Verde (Moreno Valley) 7-0 def. La Serra (Riverside) 77-0
20. (NR) Los Alamitos 6-1 def. Marina (Huntington Beach) 52-0

On the bubble: Chaparral (Temecula) 4-3, Colton 6-1, Etiwanda 4-3, Gardena 4-3, Great Oak (Temecula) 6-1, Hart (Newhall) 5-2, Los Osos (Rancho Cucamonga) 6-2, Loyola (L.A.) 3-4, Newbury Park 5-2, Newport Harbor (Newport Beach) 4-3, Rancho Cucamonga 6-1, Roosevelt (Corona) 5-2, Warren (Downey) 6-1.

Breakdown: Oceanside remains at No. 1 but Long Beach Poly's loss to Millikan takes a lot of the glimmer off the Pirates' win over the Jackrabbits that helped catapult them to the top. Coach John Carroll has no control over which league in which the Pirates play but San Diego's Valley League isn't even close to the Sunset. Edison gets tough Los Alamitos this week after its impressive win over Newport Beach's Newport Harbor. Meanwhile, Oceanside plays Orange Glen of Escondido, which is 4-4 but 0-4 in league. In other words, that No. 1 ranking may be seriously challenged before the end of the season. Biggest loser? Rancho Cucamonga dropped out from previous No. 5. Upland is now leading the league and has a 17-0 win over the same Los Osos team that beat the Cougars, 31-28. Elsewhere this week, can Millikan make it two straight upsets, playing No. 3 Lakewood? And No. 6 La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad) knows it has to be on top of its game against No. 14 Escondido since it beat the Cougars in last year's San Diego Section title game. Then there's the Woodland Hills Showdown in the San Fernando Valley between L.A. City title hopefuls No. 17 Taft and No. 18 El Camino Real.

Division I North
1. (1) Grant (Sacramento) 8-0 def. Kennedy (Sacramento) 85-0
2. (2) De La Salle (Concord) 5-2 def. San Ramon Valley (Danville) 56-14
3. (6) Amador Valley (Pleasanton) 6-1 def. California (San Ramon) 35-24
4. (5) Bellarmine Prep (San Jose) 5-1-1 tied Archbishop Mitty (SJ) 14-14
5. (3) Granite Bay 6-2 lost to Rocklin 14-7
6. (9) Berkeley 6-0 def. El Cerrito 50-0
7. (14) Nevada Union (Grass Valley) 6-1 def. Franklin (Sac.) 49-28
8. (10) Tracy 7-0 def. Chavez (Stockton) 55-36
9. (11) Serra (San Mateo) 4-3 def. Archbishop Mitty (SJ) 17-14
10. (13) Deer Valley (Antioch) 7-0 def. Pittsburg 35-33
11. (15) San Benito (Hollister) 7-0 Idle
12. (NR) Vacaville 6-1 def. Armijo (Fairfield) 63-30
13. (NR) Monterey Trail (Elk Grove) 6-2 def. Folsom 22-21 OT
14. (4) Folsom 6-1 lost to Monterey Trail (Elk Grove) 22-21 OT
15. (NR) California (San Ramon) 4-3 lost to Amador Valley 35-24

On the bubble: Fairfield 5-2, Foothill (Pleasanton) 5-2, Granada (Livermore) 3-4, Heritage (Brentwood) 5-2, Lincoln (Stockton) 5-2, Milpitas 6-1, Monte Vista (Danville) 4-3, Pittsburg 3-4, Pleasant Grove (Elk Grove) 5-2, San Ramon Valley (Danville) 5-2, Sheldon (Sacramento) 5-2.

Breakdown: If Grant of Sacramento weren't slaughtering all its opponents, having allowed just one touchdown all season, and De La Salle of Concord wasn't getting back to business after losing to nationally-ranked out-of-state opponents, the story in this division would be Amador Valley of Pleasanton, which has bounced back from its 11-point loss to De La Salle for three straight East Bay Athletic League victories, roaring from off the chart to No. 3. Sometimes ties cost a team (Escondido two weeks ago in Southern California) but not Bellarmine Prep of San Jose because the team the Bells tied at 14, Archbishop Mitty of San Jose, is playing well and rated No. 4 in Division II. Meanwhile, congratulations to Monterey Trail of Elk Grove for its first-ever state ranking. The Mustangs upset previously unbeaten Folsom and found a way to slow down Folsom's spread offense.

Division II South
1. (1) Crenshaw (Los Angeles) 7-0 def. Fremont (Los Angeles) 61-0
2. (2) Servite (Anaheim) 6-1 def. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 30-20
3. (3) Moorpark 7-0 def. Royal (Simi Valley) 51-0
4. (4) Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) 6-1 def. Chaminade (West Hills) 21-3
5. (5) Bishop Amat (La Puente) 7-0 def. Alemany (Mission Hills) 36-14
6. (6) Norco 6-1 def. Santiago (Corona) 44-39
7. (9) Westlake (Westlake Village) 7-0 def. Newbury Park 31-27
8. (7) Tulare Union 7-0 def. Porterville 56-21
9. (8) Citrus Hill (Perris) 7-0 def. Beaumont 42-3
10. (10) Mission Bay (San Diego) 7-0 def. Hoover (San Diego) 48-14
11. (11) Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) 6-1 def. Mira Mesa (SD) 48-7
12. (12) Charter Oak (Covina) 6-1 def. Diamond Ranch (Pomona) 12-0
13. (14) Lutheran (Orange) 4-3 def. JSerra (SJ Capistrano) 23-14
14. (13) St. Francis (La Canada) 6-1 def. Loyola (L.A.) 27-23
15. (15) Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 3-4 lost to Servite (Anaheim) 30-20

On the bubble: Alemany (Mission Hills) 4-3, Chaminade (West Hills) 5-2, Crespi (Encino) 4-3, Culver City 6-1, Dorsey (L.A.) 6-1, Helix (La Mesa) 5-2, Heritage (Menifee) 5-2, Kingsburg 7-0, Mira Costa (Manhattan Beach) 5-2, Monrovia 7-0, San Jacinto 6-1, St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 4-3.

Breakdown: The CIF bowl game selection committee is almost certainly cheering for Crenshaw of Los Angeles to give the L.A. City Section its first bowl team and the Cougars are doing their part, toughening up their schedule against some of the Southern Section's best and so far dominating City foes. The annual argument about strength of schedule comes into big play at the bottom of the Top 15 where Mater Dei of Santa Ana remains at No. 15 despite having a 3-4 record and losing to Servite last week. But the Monarchs only lost by 10 points and the question is, would teams with glittering records like Kingsburg, Monrovia or Dorsey of Los Angeles do as well? Probably not, so the Monarchs remain. This week the focus will fall on No. 4 Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks which plays dangerous bubble team Crespi (Encino) and No. 9 Citrus Hill of Perris, which should at least get tested by 5-2 Heritage of Menifee.  We've given a bump to new No. 7 Westlake since the Warriors keep winning in the Marmonte League and in two weeks will meet up with No. 3 Moorpark in a likely 9-0 vs. 9-0 regular season showdown.

Division II North
1. (1) Del Oro (Loomis) 7-0 def. Roseville 49-0
2. (2) St. Francis (Mountain View) 6-1 def. Riordan (SF) 42-13
3. (5) Rocklin 7-0 def. Granite Bay 14-7
4. (7) Archbishop Mitty (SJ) 6-0-1 tied Bellarmine Prep (SJ) 14-14
5. (3) Los Gatos 6-1 def. Saratoga (SJ) 47-0
6. (4) Oakdale 7-0 def. Weston Ranch (Stockton) 56-14
7. (6) Inderkum (Sacramento) 7-0 def. Pioneer (Woodland) 41-28
8. (9) Enterprise (Redding) 8-0 def. Oroville 61-21
9. (10) Placer (Auburn) 7-0 def. Bear River (Grass Valley) 51-7
10. (NR) Encinal (Alameda) 6-1 def. St. Mary's (Berkeley) 34-27

On the bubble: Casa Roble (Orangevale) 4-3, Bella Vista (Fair Oaks) 6-1, Del Campo (Fair Oaks) 6-1, Foothill (Palo Cedro) 5-3, Lincoln 7-0, Manteca 5-2, Novato 5-3, Paradise 7-1, Petaluma 7-0, Shasta (Redding) 6-2, Sierra (Manteca) 6-1, Sonora 6-1, Whitney (Rocklin) 5-2, Windsor 6-1.

Breakdown: The success shown by Rocklin and Archbishop Mitty of San Jose against higher-rated Division I teams last week allowed the two clubs to make big jumps over teams that may wonder what they did wrong to drop. The answer to that is nothing, it's that impressive performances against quality programs are enough to hop teams that win as expected. At the other end of the Top 10, Sierra of Manteca's loss up in the foothills at Sonora opened a spot and allowed Encinal to go back in. The Jets' only loss is to D1 North-ranked Serra of San Mateo. Mitty now gets an opportunity to show it deserves its lofty rating as it battles No. 2 St. Francis. Looking ahead, we'll all have to wait another week for the Del Oro vs. Rocklin Sierra Foothill showdown.

Division III South
1. (1) Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 7-0 def. Carpinteria 43-0
2. (2) Serra (Gardena) 7-0 def. Harvard-Westlake (N. Hollywood) 34-6
3. (3) St. Bonaventure (Ventura) 6-1 def. Buena (Ventura) 44-27
4. (4) St. Joseph (Santa Maria) 7-0 def. Pioneer Valley 21-13
5. (8) Taft 6-1 def. Wasco 42-0
6. (5) JSerra (SJ Capistrano) 6-1 lost to Lutheran (Orange) 23-14
7. (6) Harvard-Westlake (N. Hollywood) 4-2 lost to Serra (Gardena) 34-6
8. (10) San Marino 6-1 def. South Pasadena  41-14
9. (7) Templeton 6-2 lost to Santa Ynez 21-6
10. (NR) Bishop's (La Jolla) 5-2 def. The Rock (San Diego) 56-0

On the bubble: Chowchilla 4-3, Corcoran 5-2, Fowler 5-2, Liberty (Madera) 4-3, Morro Bay 4-3, Notre Dame (Riv.) 5-2, Paraclete (Lancaster) 4-3, Sierra (Tollhouse) 4-3, St. Genevieve (Panorama City) 8-0, St. Paul (Santa Fe Springs) 3-4, Village Christian (Sun Valley) 6-1, Whittier Christian (La Habra) 4-3.

Breakdown: It's clear that JSerra of San Juan Capistrano is greatly improved and now a major concern of every Trinity League opponent but Lutheran of Orange put a real chill on the Lions' conference title hopes with the 23-14 win. The top three teams in this division, though, skated and St. Joseph (Santa Maria) escaped an upset bid by Pioneer Valley (Santa Maria). Taft of the Central Section brushed aside Wasco to win its sixth straight after a season-opening 24-21 loss to Templeton. Speaking of Templeton, a second loss, this one to Santa Ynez, drops the Eagles behind Taft in the Top 10. Now we'll see if Taft's Wildcats really belong that high since they play dangerous Div. II 6-1 Tehachapi on the road this week.

Division III North
1. (1) St. Mary's (Stockton) 7-0 def. Stagg (Stockton) 85-40
2. (2) Palma (Salinas) 6-1-1 def. North Salinas 21-7
3. (3) Central Catholic (Modesto) 6-1 def. Hilmar 48-20
4. (4) Marin Catholic (Kentfield) 5-1 def. San Marin (Novato) 41-0
5. (5) Escalon 7-0 def. Hughson 37-0
6. (7) Valley Christian (San Jose) 4-2 def. Sacred Heart Cathedral (SF) 35-21
7. (9) Seaside 5-1-1 def. Pajaro Valley (Watsonville) 47-0
8. (6) Hilmar 6-1 lost to Central Catholic (Modesto) 48-20
9. (NR) Sutter 6-2 def. Winters 17-6
10. (NR) Wheatland 7-1 def. Las Plumas (Oroville) 40-6

On the bubble: Argonaut (Jackson) 4-3, Cardinal Newman (Santa Rosa) 3-4, Colfax 4-2, Fort Bragg 6-1, Fortuna 5-2, Healdsburg 5-2, Middletown 6-1, Ripon 5-2, Sacred Heart Prep (Atherton) 5-2, Salesian (Richmond) 6-1, Scotts Valley 4-2-1, St. Mary's (Berkeley) 5-2, The King's Academy (Sunnyvale) 6-1.

Breakdown: The difference between St. Mary's of Stockton and the rest of  the Tri-City Athletic League and maybe every teams in this division was never more evident than when the Rams pummeled Stagg of Stockton, 85-40. Remember, Stagg won its first five games. The Rams are averaging 47.5 points per game, but instead of the state bowl game their sights probably are more fixed on potentially facing D1 North top-ranked Grant in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. They would need to win that divisional title to get bowl eligible anyway and with a win might be more in line for the NorCal Open Division slot instead of Division III. Much also may depend on what happens in other section playoffs around the state. The CIF needs to avoid potential ridiculous routs wherever possible so we see a scenario where it's just best for everyone to have St. Mary's play Oaks Christian or St. Bonaventure in D3 instead of having Oaks Christian or St. Bonaventure completely dominate some other team.

Small Schools South

1. (1) Francis Parker (San Diego) 6-1 def. Horizon (San Diego) 45-16
2. (2) St. Margaret's (San Juan Capistrano) 6-1 Idle
3. (3) Santa Fe Chr. (Solana Beach) 7-0 def. Christian (El Cajon) 33-13
4. (4) Rio Hondo Prep (Arcadia) 7-0 def. Chadwick (PV Peninsula) 43-7
5. (5) Linfield Christian (Temecula) 7-0 def. Sage Hill (Newport Bch) 56-0
6. (8) La Jolla Country Day (La Jolla) 6-1 def. Holtville 28-14
7. (6) Christian (El Cajon) 5-3 lost to Santa Fe Christian 33-13
8. (9) Frazier Mountain (Lebec) 6-1 def. Rosamond 55-28
9. (7) Chadwick (PV Peninsula) 6-1 lost to Rio Hondo Prep (Arcadia) 43-7
10. (10) Aquinas (San Bernardino) 3-3 Idle

On the bubble: Arrowhead Christian (Redlands) 5-2, Bloomington Christian 4-3, Central Valley Christian (Visalia) 3-4, Kern Valley (Lake Isabella) 5-2, Santa Paula 5-2.

Breakdown: So, Rio Hondo Prep showed there was a considerable difference between No. 4 and No. 9 Chadwick-36 points worth. It is  also this corner's suspicion that just maybe Santa Fe Christian is the No. 2 or even No. 1 team in the division and the Eagles will have a chance to show it when they host No. 1 Parker on Saturday. If they can handle Deon Randall, they could win. SFC has played a much tougher schedule than St. Margaret's and the San Juan Capistrano school will continue to have a questionmark over its head as long as it keeps playing smaller schools. There was only slight movement among the losers here as Christian falling to SFC was predictable and Chadwick falling to Rio Hondo also was expected.

Small Schools North

1. (1) Modesto Christian 7-0 def. Ripon 21-13
2. (2) Ferndale 8-0 def. Hoopa Valley (Hoopa) 43-14
3. (4) Modoc (Alturas) 7-0 Idle
4. (5) Portola 8-0 def. Esparto 35-0
5. (3) St. Francis (Watsonville) 5-2 lost to Soquel 23-7
6. (6) Bradshaw Christian (Sacramento) 6-1 def. Delta (Clarksburg) 41-6   .
7. (7) Fall River (McArthur) 6-2 def. Burney 50-6
8. (9) Capital Christian (Sac.) 4-3 def. Highlands (N. Highlands) 42-0
9. (10) Hamilton (Hamilton City) 6-2 def. Biggs 41-13
10. (8) Hoopa Valley (Hoopa) 6-1 lost to Ferndale 43-14

On the bubble:  Burney 5-3, Colusa 5-3,  East Nicholas (Nicholas) 5-3, Quincy 6-2, St. Bernard (Eureka) 3-4, St. Vincent (Petaluma) 4-2, Vacaville Christian 4-2, Valley Christian (Dublin) 4-3.

Breakdown: Modesto Christian managed to overcome a strong Ripon team to hold its spot on top and Ferndale kept pace with its win over previously unbeaten Hoopa Valley of Hoopa. St. Francis (Watsonville) stumbled and slips to sixth before facing another serious challenge in Scotts Valley this week. Portola puts its unbeaten record on the line against always dangerous Quincy, which is 6-2. None of the bubble teams has really shown that they're ready to move up. One of those bubble teams, Vacaville Christian, actually had its game last weekend switched to Monday night of this week. The school has been closed due to a serious outbreak of the H1N1 flu in Vacaville.
