Who's Hot: Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) kickers
With Nick Falk in the midst of a standout NFL kicking career so far with the Dallas Cowboys and with Kai Forbath shining at UCLA as perhaps the top kicker currently in the Pac-10 Conference, it's no secret that kickers who are from Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks always seem to be clutch, booming and accurate. The Knights' current kicker, Nick Solis, showed on Friday night that he's cut from the same cloth as he connected on a 51-yard field goal with one second left in a 23-21 win over Crespi of Encino. Solis made his third field goal of the game and got his chance after quarterback Ryan Kasdorf completed four passes for 49 yards to put the ball just inside the Celts' 35-yard line. According to Gerry Gittelson of the L.A. Daily News, Crespi looked primed to pull off the upset of the No. 11-ranked Knights when QB Bryan Bennett fired a 17-yard TD pass to Brandon Graves with 57 seconds remaining. That was still enough time for Notre Dame to give another one of its vaunted kickers one last chance.

Who's Not: Oaks Christian CIF Open Division Bowl Bid Supporters
Since the preseason, California's No. 1 ranked team has been Oaks Christian of Westlake Village and if the Lions go ahead and win a second straight CIF Southern Section Northwest Division title and finish 14-0 they won't drop from that position. Earning a bid for the open division of the CIF state bowl games, though, is a different process and it is not good news for the Lions that nationally-ranked Skyline of Washington was knocked off 25-20 on Thursday night by Bothell of Washington. Oaks Christian's open division bid is likely going to depend a lot on how Skyline does up in Washington because the Lions have a win over Skyline and it's obvious that the CIF section commissioners who will award that berth are swayed by wins over champions and highly-ranked teams from other states. If they weren't, then Grant of Sacramento (which had win over state titlists from Idaho and Utah) would not have gotten the NorCal open division slot last season over De La Salle. Skyline could still win its state title up in Washington, but now will have to do it with a second loss and a lower national ranking.
