Sorry for the lack of posts this afternoon. I've been on airplanes most of the day and am now in Oklahoma City, getting ready for tomorrow's Cincinnati-Oklahoma game in Norman.
Here are some evening reading materials as we await Week 2 kickoff in about 16 hours:
* Last we heard, Jim Leavitt said it would take a "minor miracle" for running back Mike Ford to make the trip to Orlando for tomorrow's UCF game. It's not quite turning water into wine, but the South Florida running back did indeed make the trip, Greg Auman reports in his blog. Doesn't mean Ford will necessarily play, however.
* There have been no changes yet to tomorrow's 4:30 p.m. kickoff of West Virginia at East Carolina as officials continue to monitor Hurricane Hanna. Or Tropical Storm Hanna. Whatever she is right now. Was just watching the Weather Channel in the hotel room, and they were calling for buckets of rain for the UConn-Temple game at noon.
* Chip Malafronte has lots of future UConn football schedules at his New Haven Register blog, if that's what you're into.
* The Daily Orange, Syracuse's student paper, says student support for the football team is iffy.
* Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly tells Bill Koch that the Bearcats have to score at least 21 points tomorrow.
"I don't think this is a 7-3 game," Kelly said. "We've got to be in the 20s. We've got to have at least three scores on the board to give ourselves a fighting chance.
"I don't expect them to play their worst game of the year and turn the ball over. We're assuming that they're going to play well and that we're going to play well. If that's the case and it's two football teams that are playing well, it's going to get into that range where you're going to need three scores."
* Brendan Prunty of The Star-Ledger spotlights Rutgers tight end Kevin Brock, an emerging threat.
* Card Chronicle's Mike Rutherford offers nine things he hopes to see from Louisville against Tennessee Tech. And he isn't aiming too high.
"With all due respect to everything the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles bring to the table, I'd say it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that the main thing this weekend's game will produce is the least satisfying Louisville football win in recent memory."
* The website Coaches Hot Seat has its updated list of top 10 -- you guessed it -- coaches on the hot seat in college football. Tree of the top seven spots are filled by Big East headset wearers. Bet you can guess their names.
