Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly was happy with what Chazz Anderson did in his first collegiate start at Marshall. So happy that Kelly said Anderson has earned the start again this week in the conference opener versus Rutgers.
Anderson and fellow redshirt freshman Zach Collaros battled for the starting quarterback job in practice last week in the wake of Tony Pike's injury. Anderson learned he would start Friday morning, the day of the game. Kelly said there would not be a competition this week.
"No more," he said. "I'm tired of it."
Anderson went 16-of-26 for 158 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in the 33-10 win at Marshall. He also ran for a score. His longest completion was 17 yards.
Kelly also said that Pike, who broke his left, non-throwing arm at Akron, would practice this week in some light non-contact drills. He will not dress for the Rutgers game but could be back when Cincinnati plays Connecticut on Oct. 25 after a bye.
