Here are some responses to this week's "you pick it" candidates.
We have no clear-cut winner this week. It was split. The candidates were Denver rookie Spencer Larsen starting at both fullback and middle linebacker. (He was the first NFL play to start both ways since 2003); the official's mistakes at the end of the San Diego-Pittsburgh game and Larry Johnson having a big role in the Chiefs' game plan after not playing in the past four games.
Here is a sampling of what you had to say: Thanks, as always, and we'll do it again next week.
USA: the Steelers Game, didnt change the outcome. But if the Refs new they blew the call there should be more oversight. Which in turn should open all plays up to replay.
Vince from Denver: Spencer Larsen's performance was nothing short of fantastic. Going back to the high school days, going both ways was tough then and compared to the pros...high school is like sandlot ball so to see a professional athlete, without the hype of a #1 pick mind you, go through an entire game playing 60+ downs was truly a treat to see.
Unks from Bloomington: My vote goes to Larry Johnson. There needs to be a good story regarding LJ, and one that highlights just how well the Chiefs are playing with an offense catering to all of their players' strengths. LJ needs to remain in integral part of the Chiefs offense.
Siles from Carson: Although I'm a huge Larry Johnson fan, I do think that his presence hinders the Chiefs offensive progression. Having the spread offense tailored to Thigpen's strengths was a smart choice by the coaching staff, but with the implementation of Johnson, who has publicly voiced his opinions of being the focal point of the offense, it takes valuable opportunities to develop and mature Thigpen. Although the Chiefs O-Line has made significant strides this year, it is nowhere near the level of the O-lines of yesteryear, and to give Johnson that many carries is foolish; I think he had 5 goal-line carries against NOR and was stuffed on almost every one of them. I understand that he is the highest paid Chiefs player in history but like Herm has historically stated, "You play to win the game" and that sadly means limiting Johnson's carries until an O-line is built around him to support the run.
Glenwood springs: I pick "plays both ways". How aweome was that!!!!!!
Lawrence from San Jose: Hey Bill, you've got to talk about the ref's mistake. I can't stand when referees make mistakes, especially after reviewing the play. They huddled up, talked it over and all of them combined could not make the correct call. I'm sorry, but I just can't stand that and I know everyone's not perfect, but you're telling me the refs can't be perfect once a week?
