Fans in San Diego will get to see the Chargers open the regular season against Carolina on local television. The local FOX station in San Diego purchased the remaining tickets needed to lift the local blackout. Thursday, the Chargers announced that they needed to sell 600 tickets to guarantee their 30th consecutive sellout.
Fox will show the game. This happens routinely in the NFL when a sellout is close. Still, this is not a good sign for the Chargers. To struggle to sell out the season opener, especially for a team that is expected to contend for the Super Bowl, is alarming.
There have long been rumors the Chargers could move north to Los Angeles. This development certainly won't quiet that talk.
