The following is a look, after Week 1, at the statistical leaders in the AFC West:

PASSING: QB Jay Cutler, Denver

The numbers: 16-of-24 passing for 300 yards. Two touchdowns, no interceptions.

What does it mean? Cutler had a great start to what many observers think will be a breakout season.

RUSHING: RB Justin Fargas, Oakland

The numbers: 18 carries for 97 yards.

What does it mean? Many of Fargas' yards came when the game was out of control, but he is a solid player. He will be a big part of Oakland's running attack this year.

RECEIVING: WR Eddie Royal, Denver

The numbers: Nine catches for an NFL leading 146 yards.

What does it mean: This may have been the start of a rookie-of-the-year campaign. This second-round pick put the league on notice.

TACKLING:LB Nate Webster, Denver; DB Eric Weddle, San Diego; S Gibril Wilson, Oakland

The numbers: 11.

What does it mean? All three players are first-year starters for their respective teams. This is what each club was expecting from its new starter.

Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, Jay Cutler, Justin Fargas, Eddie Royal, Nate Webster, Eric Weddle, Gibril Wilson
