A day after he was bypassed for the AFC Pro Bowl team, San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has been named the AFC offensive player of the week.

Rivers was honored for spurring San Diego's wild comeback at Kansas City on Sunday in a game the Chargers needed to win to stay alive in the AFC West. San Diego was trailing 21-3 in the third quarter and had to score two touchdowns in the final 79 seconds to win, 22-21.
Rivers threw touchdown passes in that last-second comeback. Rivers completed 34 of 48 passes for 346 yards in the game. Rivers was particularly special in the fourth quarter of the game as he completed 18 of 24 passes for 190 yards.
Rivers is leading the NFL in passer rating. He is the first alternate for the Pro Bowl and he likely has a chance of heading to Hawaii since one of the quarterbacks selected ahead of him, the Jets' Brett Favre, rarely goes to Hawaii.
