RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- Chiefs defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham has a goal for his unit in the next three days before the team breaks training camp.

"I want to make sure we are tough," a candid and relaxed Cunningham said. "That is the No. 1 priority for this defense."

The Chiefs are spending the last week of training camp practicing just once a day. Cunningham said the one-practice-a-day-format should not soften his team.

"We have to get that toughness," Cunningham said. "We have to return to Kansas City a tough defense."

Does Cunningham think his defense will reach his goal?

"Yes, I do think so," Cunningham said. "We're getting there. I saw some very good things against Chicago [Thursday night]. Guys were working hard. We have some very hungry guys out there."
