SAN DIEGO -- Antoine Cason was a star cornerback at Arizona. Now, the No. 27 overall pick in the draft is learning a new position.
Cason is working toward becoming the nickel cornerback for the Chargers. Cason said the difference between playing cornerback and the nickel are two wildly different positions.
"I didn't realize it was so different," Cason said after a Chargers camp practice. "That's been the biggest difference of the NFL camp from college. I am basically learning a new position. But I have great coaching and it is going very well. But it is a learning experience every day."
Cason has been a fast study. He looks natural on the practice field and has continued his college reputation as an interception machine into the Chargers camp.
Meanwhile, Cason is following the camp of another first-round pick. In the past year, he became good friends with Chris Long, the No. 2 overall pick of the St. Louis Rams. The two keep in touch and they will see each other when the Chargers visit the Rams on Aug. 16 in the preseason.
"I look forward to catching up with Chris soon," Cason said. "We're both going through this together."
