Rookie Ryan Torain (above) could challenge Selvin Young for the starting running back  job.

The wild card in Denver's running back committee is fifth-round pick Ryan Torain. The wild card in Denver's running back committee is fifth-round pick Ryan Torain. Second-year player Selvin Young is the current No. 1 tailback in Denver. Veteran Michael Pittman, who is also working at fullback, and Andre Hall will both get some playing time.

However, if Young is going to be unseated it will be Torain who does the unseating. So far, the rookie from Arizona State is doing well in camp. He needs to make sure he doesn't fumble and that he stays healthy. But if Torain can develop in camp, plenty of playing time awaits him. After Tuesday morning's practice, Denver coach Mike Shanahan said Torain is progressing well.

"We talked about him in the draft and I thought he was a first-round talent. He hasn't disappointed me yet. We'll get a chance to see if he can hold onto the football, if he can remember his plays when the lights are on. So far he has worked extremely hard, and he's impressed most of the coaches."
