INDIANAPOLIS -- Let me take this opportunity to show off the dateline. I've just finished talking with a variety of people at team headquarters and hope to have a column on three Colts-turned-Titans posted shortly. (Did that sound a bit like Matt Mosley of NFC East blog fame? That's what I was going for; I was channeling him. Love the guy.)
In the meantime, a couple of quick hits from the locker room, a chat with Colts president Bill Polian and Tony Dungy's press conference.
•
Reggie Wayne's been working a lot in the slot when the Colts go three-wide. Dungy said it really started because second-year man
Anthony Gonzalez played outside last year when
Marvin Harrison was out and remains more comfortable on the left side. Dungy said that Wayne didn't complain about the shift, a testament to his versatility, because of recent history.
"He saw all those balls Brandon Stokley caught and knew it wasn't all bad," Dungy said with a grin.
Wayne would draw cornerback Cortland Finnegan when he's outside and nickelback Vincent Fuller when he's in the slot.
Bill Polian spoke very highly of Finnegan back in training camp in Terre Haute.
He was enthusiastic today when I asked him about Fuller. I'm still just getting to know Polian, but on reputation in media circles, he doesn't blow smoke on personnel questions like so many around the league do, automatically complimenting everyone.
"Fuller's good," Polian said. "He's a good player. In fact, in watching tape last night, I made a note of that. I mean he's really played very well."
• It's not major news so long after the fact, but Peyton Manning said infection in the bursa sac that was removed from his left knee in July was a staph infection. Staph infections are in the news in the NFL again -- in Cleveland, again -- where Kellen Winslow was suspended for a game by the Browns for talking about being hospitalized recently with a staph infection.
• The Colts waived cornerback and return man Keiwan Ratliff and replaced him with Nick Graham. Pierre Garcon will take over as punt returner.
• Dungy said safety Bob Sanders (knee), running back Joseph Addai (hamstring), cornerback Kelvin Hayden (knee) and receiver Roy Hall (knee) will probably not play Monday night in Nashville. Tight end Gijon Robinson (ankle) is expected back in action.
• Indications are that linebacker Tyjuan Hagler, who played on special teams last week in his first game off the PUP list, will be worked in a bit at linebacker, likely replacing Freddy Keiaho in spots.
