Camp wrap: Tennessee Titans

The Titans officially wrapped camp Wednesday and this afternoon they'll head for Atlanta, where they will square off against the Falcons Friday night in preseason game No. 3.

Here are thoughts on some key issues the team carried into camp:

Chris Johnson is for real.

That speed the Titans were enamored with on draft day certainly showed it can translate into the NFL in the first two games of the preseason. When the games count, the Titans will use him much more creatively, putting him in the slot, splitting him wide and even pairing him in the backfield with LenDale White. He doesn't get hit squarely very often, but the one question that won't be answered for a while is how he will hold up over the long season.

Jevon Kearse's durability will be a question.

All of Nashville would like to see the return of The Freak, but for Kearse to be a playmaker the team may need to regulate his snaps. He missed a good amount of training camp practices, often with a wrap on a knee. His left end spot, where Jacob Ford and rookie William Hayes will work, is the only spot that amounts to a question mark on defense.

Alge Crumpler will help steady the offense.

Both on the field and in the locker room, the tight end seems to be just what the Titans were hoping he'd be. Critics suggested his knees would be an issue. Not so far. He looks like he can be a really resource for Vince Young.

Young is still up and down.

Let's not put too much weight on a poor passing performance in the second preseason game. Still, he was up and down day-to-day in training camp practices, and consistency remains a question. On good Sundays he can makes the plays that win games. On bad ones, the hope will be he doesn't turn the ball over and a good defense and run game will put the Titans in good position.

Eugene Amano is the left guard.

The Titans haven't declared a winner, but they've also given Amano virtually all the time with the first team in the spot that opened with the retirement of Benji Olson. Before camp started, ESPN.com rated Amano vs. Leroy Harris as "Just for show." Seems like we hit on that one. Harris will be in line to play if any of the three interior starters go down.

Tennessee Titans, Chris Johnson, Vince Young, Eugene Amano, Alge Crumpler, Jevon Kearse
