The AFC North mailbox is exploding this week as the NFL reaches the midpoint of its season. Let's answer some questions.
Jeannie from Ashtabula writes: Which is more likely at the end of this season-- a Derek Anderson trade, or the firing of Romeo Crennel?
James Walker: Based on the way this season is going, both could happen, Jeannie. Anderson is owed a $5 million roster bonus in March and it doesn't make sense for the Browns to pay it now that he's a backup quarterback. So Cleveland will shop Anderson to a team looking for a starter next year. Crennel had a chance this week to lead the team to a 5-4 record the past two games and deserves blame for back-to-back meltdowns that ended Cleveland's season.
Josh from Parkton writes: Hey Walker the Raiders are on the verge of releasing CB DeAngelo Hall and WR Javon Walker; should the Ravens consider signing those two players since they are very thin on those both positions?
James Walker: I don't believe they should, Josh. Baltimore is doing well right now and doesn't need two players who could possibly disrupt team chemistry. Hall and Walker have been good players in the past, but right now they are living off their names and reputations more than their performances on the field. But recent reports out of Baltimore indicate the team is interested in Hall.
Harry from Baltimore writes: After his impressive performance on MNF, should Leftwich get the starting QB nod, at least until Ben is healthier. Can the Steelers go all the way with him at QB.
James Walker: Forgive me for questioning your allegiance, Harry. But a person from Baltimore suggesting Byron Leftwich should lead the Steelers the rest of the year has me skeptical. The Steelers are not a Super Bowl contender with Leftwich. But Leftwich proved he is capable of leading the team in spot duty when necessary.
Javier from San Francisco writes: James, what are your thoughts on Willie Parker's long term status for this season? Will he be back as the premiere running back on this team? Or do you think his injury is more severe than initially reported?
James Walker: Parker was working his way back slowly, then had another setback with his shoulder against the Washington Redskins. You could tell Monday night that Parker was not exactly where he wants to be. His balance and ability to break tackles were a little off.
