Hey guys, again with the travel, sorry. I'm on my way home from Virginia Tech this morning and had to leave in time for Al Groh's teleconference this afternoon (check back later for what he and Kevin Ogletree had to say).
Not a lot of time for reading newspapers, but I did find some time to read your comments and questions.
This one comes from a Hokie fan named Michael:
It's quite disappointing that, even though Virginia Tech has been the most consistently successful team in the ACC since joining, AND has one multiple ACC championships since joining, including LAST YEAR, you didn't think it was important to mention them at all in your ACC overview.
Heather Dinich: Seriously? Not even one mention? Not intentional, really. Hopefully Monday's coverage from practice compensated a bit.
Brandon writes: Just reported on warchant.com FRESHMEN LB stud just threw up 480 on the bench press. Guy is going to be a superstar in no time.
WRITER: Names are SO overrated.
Mitch in Atlanta writes: While I love all the work you do for the ACC Football blog, I am curious about one of your predictions; "Somebody at Miami will win Rookie of the Year. But ... somebody else will be ineligible or in trouble." Just curious on 2 things, when was the last time a team went the whole year without having somebody in some sort of trouble? And when is a kid ineligible such a rare thing that you felt the need to predict it? It's those kind of comments that continue to give the normal college football fan a bad image of the University of Miami. When was the last time Miami was in the news for players in off filed incidents? When was the last time a player was arrested? Yet it seems that the common message from ESPN is that Miami is just a bunch of low life thugs. I was shocked when my daughter said she wanted to go to Miami for Masters degree because I only knew what I saw on TV. Then I went down there for a visit and realized that it was nothing like the picture that ESPN painted for me. Keep up the good work anyway.
Heather Dinich: Fair enough. Thanks for reading.
Hamid, in Port Saint. Lucie writes: why do you hate my Hurricanes?
Heather Dinich: I don't, really.
Doug in Orlando writes: Heather, Another dissapointing 7-5 season for the seminoles is highly unlikely but not near as unlikely as Clemson playing for it all. Have you done your homework here?
Heather Dinich: Look, nothing would surprise me this season, and I absolutely realize there is talent on that FSU roster. But I'm not looking at what Clemson OR Florida State did in the past. I'm looking at what they've got on their rosters right now, and Clemson is hands down the best team in the league. What they do with that is up to them.
This one comes from Steve: Nice work on the ACC most hated ... you were darn near perfect. Except Duke is still more hated than Wake. Just because they're pitiful, doesn't mean they are any less Duke, which equals more hated than Wake, regardless. Of course I'm biased (UVa '94), but I think most of ACC-dom will agree.
Heather Dinich: Thank you, Steve. It's not easy being darn near perfect.
David, in Atlanta writes: How is it possible for nine ACC teams to not make a bowel apperance. Most of the ACC teams will win at least 7 games as they ussually do which makes them BOWEL ELGIBLE!
Heather Dinich: Well, first of all, I'm not going to make fun of you for the championing the league's bowel movement. However, it should be pointed out that only eight teams were eligible last season, and there haven't been nine teams eligible this whole decade. I'd keep going further back but don't have time.
Andrew in Woomoor, MD, writes: Problem with your BC prediction is that we've already forgotten about O'Brien, except for a wonderful 3-hour memory last season whooping his new team's arse. Ryan is unforgettable, but O'Brien is a traitorious punk who the Superfans never embraced in the first place. J-God shows creativity and enthusiasm, and has the BC fans ready to go.
Heather Dinich: I live in Maryland. Not Woomoor, though. Never heard of it. As for your note, thanks. I stand corrected.
